Actually, this is one of the scenes that made me doubt 3D gaming. As I was just coming off of Mario 64, Star Fox 64, Goldeneye, and Extreme G. All these great 3d titles... So I was expecting Sonic to keep momentum like he usually does. Which is why this part, and the first loop, were very confusing. I let go of the button, and Sonic simply falls to his death. Or, I press any other direction except up, and Sonic falls to his death.

The scene was both impressive, and a let-down, as I died a couple times, before figuring out how to handle it.

how they make tas runs is not my most understood thing
like i speedrun some games, poorly but i do 100% runs so any% runs can eat my dick, but tas runs are a whole different beast

they have really fucking complex scripts that abuse anything they possibly can because youre now no longer bound to human speed for input. most people have some way of seeing what theyre doing when the camera locks, or they do trial and error until they get the results they want

like how many script rewrites did it need before that run was complete? i can assure you a lot for most of them. tails was easiest, knuckles was hardest, sonic's relied on timing instead of rng, since your script must accommodate for rng.

how they do it i dont know personally, but i know they have just as much understanding as any speedrunner, but they may lack the ability to do a speedrun because they arent good enough to get a good time, hence why tas exists. skill on a controller vs skill on a computer

live code manipulation is a thing too. there was some guy that did it by hand which is fucking amazing
