In newer games you never miss a pokeball, you can fail the capture because they break free though

Fuck that shit. Being able to just select the moves you want to carry over was a goddamn blessing for that series. Having to constantly select the same two demons/personas over and over again until you just happened to get that one healing move AND the buff on them is ridiculous.

This thread is about things you DON'T miss. I know Bloodborne had the shield in the DLC, but the base game one is a wooden plank that does fuck all.
>>
>>377755192
The entire point of Pokemon was catching them and adding them to your collection. By dumbing down everything that the originals stood for and by focusing on some forgettable as fuck """""battle""""" system that no one asked for, they shat on what made Pokemon good.
>>
>>377754363
That's not really a mechanic. It's just the no-shake of gen 1, there's no random chance to miss or anything like that. If you kept throwing pokeballs at that Mewtwo you'd know you caught it as soon as it got in the ball.
>>
>>377755307
>Wanting a demon who inherits two low level status moves that will literally never hit, or a dodge fire on a demon who nulls fire, or bringing media over when the other demon has mediarama

Yeah, nah. I'm happy to be a casual if that means I don't have to run around with Trumpeter who has fucking Rakunda when he's able to learn Debilitate. Seriously, the games give you some dumb abilities sometimes when fusing.
>>
>>377755442
I guarantee you the battle system of the new games has a lot more depth than gen 1.
>>
>>377755495
Its part of the random nature of dungeon crawlers
You are supposed to go with whatever you get first, it also add replayability.
I wont tell you how to play a game but at least understand why it was there.
They had to cave in to casuals in the end though
>>
I remember missing Zapdos so many times in a row that I threw the Masterball at it. I was convinced that it was impossible to catch him without using it. This made me mad when I found about the other two birds because I thought you could only get one in a playthrough and I didn't know the other two existed.
>>
>>377755335
its down+b. you mong
>>
>>377754363
It's mewtwo. Just use the masterball, fag.
>>
>>377755340
I remember that in EB and M3 you can just press L (or was it R?) as a shortcut to talk/check. Finding that out made life so much easier. I still wonder why the default is the menu way.
>>
>>377755601
Alright, I understand that. But then they give you the ability to see the moves, back out, and then see what the game gives you again. They literally give you the ability to back away from a bad selection. If they wanted to have it just be random, you'd select the two demons and then just be asked if you want to fuse them, no menu showing the moves they get. By showing you the moves and allowing you to back out, they have an awkward in-between of hardcore and casual elements that doesn't work. They should've either made it a system where you fuse shit and only get the name of the demon, or can just select the moves. The system they have in the older games just encourages selecting and reselecting till you get what you want.

And I'd imagine that's why they've retained the ability to select demon abilities in all of the games after Persona 4 Golden I think.
>>
I remember trying to catch Lugia, wasted a shit ton of ultra balls, resetting the game and saying 'FUCK THIS SHIT' and throwing a single regular pokeball to Lugia with full health and I somehow managed to capture it.

Is this weird or it happened to someone else.
>>
>>377755637
At least you used the Master Ball on the best bird.
>>
>>377755839
I wont argue that, but then you will be even more aggravated because youd have to reload your save each time instead of just cancelling

>By dumbing down everything that the originals stood for and by focusing on some forgettable as fuck """""battle""""" system that no one asked for, they shat on what made Pokemon good.

>Strengthening Personas to transfer skills in P5 is not only randomised, but doesn't show the result
>Instead of backing out and clicking back in to find the skill you want, you have to save the game, make the fusion, and reload when it's not the one you need

How do you succeed and regress at the same time?
>>
>>377756034
Articuno is a reasonable contender for worst legendary in the entire series
>>
>>377755926
It's all random numbers and probability.

If you have a 1 in 100,000 chance of catching a full health legendary with a regular pokeball, that 1 in 100,000 chance will occasionally hit.

Speaking of GBA games, anyone remember this
>>
>>377755678
no. youre both wrong. its B then left+right in sync with the waggle animation.
>>
>>377755979
Nah, if it required reloading a save I'd probably just stick with what I got. I'd get pissy if I got something like Beelzebub with Lunge, but if it required reloading every time I'd just roll with it.

If you want to retain hardcore elements that emphasize the game's randomness, then you gotta go entirely into it. Not do half and half where players will just keep gaming the system till they get what they want. Locking that system behind a full reload would easily diminish that desire to game the system.
>>
>>377756225
>GBA
you dun goofed
>>
>>377756175
At least it isn't Palkia.
>>
>>377756167
To be fair, the main appeal of strengthening Personas is to level them up rather than give them specific moves. If you want specific moves it's better to turn certain Personas into skill cards and use them.

But yeah, if you have to use that method I could see it being annoying.
>>
>>377756197
cover legendaries have hilariously easy catch rates
this has been true since D/P/Pt
>>
>>377756262
I get you
You should still try and do a no cancel run sometime, they are pretty fun and make you have to come up with strategies on the fly instead of just cruising through the game like its nothing.
>>
>>377756354

>>
>>377756461
>using legendaries on ingame teams

wat r u casul?
>>
>>377756368
I'd imagine it would be fun at times since you could get some weird shit that turns out to be good.

I did one time get a Persona in P3 that had Marin Karin. I just left it since I didn't feel like reselecting, and then it saved my life in one of the mini-bosses surprisingly. So yeah, it could be fun.
>>
>>377756359

I can't turn Personas into skill cards yet, I had to get Dodge Psy onto Ame-no-Uzume for the Strength task. It took me like six tries.
>>
>>377756618
just sayan, you'd actually want to use palkia, while articuno is just a huge waste of ultra balls
>>
>>377756629
You're better off waiting till you can make skill cards or just use a guide. Strength's tasks are tedious and annoying. I get what it's supposed to do, but it's such a time/money sink to finish it blind that I don't fault anyone for seeking help.

Just a heads up, one of the last mementos missions gives you a High Counter skill card which is required on the final fusion needed for Strength. Save yourself some frustration and just wait to get that card to put on the persona.

Yeah, I remember Riviera. Fun game, but I wasn't a huge fan of the items that had limited uses. I really enjoyed how many ways you could get through environments, it kinda felt like D&D where you could examine everything and often something like a trap would occur in response.

The QTE nonsense was annoying, and lots of the choices to gain favor with the girls were super unclear at times. Still, a weird game with some fantastically unique mechanics.

Cover legendaries have been easier to catch for the last couple games because they're usually needed for story reasons.
>>
>>377758169
Definitely. As much as I hate to say it, the romance/waifu aspect of it would've also boosted its popularity significantly. Sadly, it never went anywhere for whatever reason. It even got a PSP port at some point I think.

>>yfw you can't roll because you're still swinging your weapon to hit the boss during his tiny moment of opportunity, but his recovery time is shorter than your animation
Git Gud. There is no boss in any SoulsBorne that only has openings for one tiny poking attack between dodges. Every boss can either be pixie broken or has openings for bare minimum one combo. Plus, if you're still swinging your weapon you wouldn't be able to utilize the shield either would you?
>>yfw poise broken or smashed to the ground, unable to do anything to defend yourself from the incoming followup hit

>gud
In the vast majority of scenarios you're not going to be able to get hit while on the ground or in the process of standing, those are some of the i-frames I spoke of, and if you're getting poise broken then you don't understand how it works or how much poise you have.
>>All of this is solved with a shield. Your fault for having shit end and not paying attention to stability.
The beauty of not using a shield is that it frees you up to have less END to out in more damage stats or HP. Why would stand in one place and take a hit to a shield, making me immobile, when I can dodge the attack, allowing me to avoid damage and move at the same time. Shields are for shitters.

>>
>>377759328
The amount of mandatory double battles throughout the game is tiny, probably single figures.

Compared to gen 1, now there's

>Normal and Special att/def are split meaning more stats
>abilities
>natures
>IVs
>EV training
>shinies
>more types and moves that the players need to learn

The combat is 100x more complex now.

Nintendo got it perfect, easy to pick up and play, more difficult to master and play seriously.

Well, for one thing, Game Freak makes Pokémon games, not Nintendo.
And furthermore, they did add a hard mode to Black 2, but getting it required finishing the game once and then restarting it without keeping any of your mon, it was completely assbackward and as always, what could have been a neat new mainstay feature ended being an incomplete and never attempted again experiment because GF can't develop their way out of a paper bag.

What? Isn't it about a guy wanting to bang his swordfu?

You have to press a exactly as it twitches anon.

The script text present in the background of the reveal trailer reveals the existence of at least three girl party members, the redhead sword-girl, the blonde and a catgirl, all discussing each-others' body at a hotspring.

What was wrong with Sharla? I played through most of the game with her.
>>
>>377754919
Did you never attempt to catch a legendary pokemon?
>>
>>377766039
She's fine.
Except for the fact every other party member is better than her.
Not weak, just the weakest out of all your party.
>>
>>377766109
It's understandable. All of the RBY legendaries are out of the way and aren't really talked about anywhere like all of the later games.
>>
>>377766039
Slows down your DPS tremendously and ultimately just ends up dragging encounters on while it's much easier to just be done with a battle quickly and auto-regen health between encounters. She has no good arts for chain attack combos and even barring that often times she'll miss a chain attack completely because she'll be cooling down. Speaking of, her talent art is garbage. Talent arts are a good way to transition from one color art to another while keeping the damage multiplier going in a chain attack and that's just one more way Sharla drags the team down. If you really want healing, 9 times out of 10 you're better off going with Riki because at least he's versatile and competent at OTHER things as well.

Articuno looks the best, and was arguably the best of the three birds during Gen I.
Sadly Ice got nerfed in Gen II, and it's been downhill since. Notice how one of the other worst legendaries is also an Ice type.
But let's be real, Articuno is better than Regigigas, at least.
>>
>>377767864
Regice was really good in RSE.
>>
>>377756461
>No moves
Lock On + Sheer Cold lol
>>
>>377767919
Sure, in the last gen where Ice could maybe be a viable tanking type if you squinted hard enough and took a few shots of whiskey.
But then the special/physical split happened and it fucked Regice.

X/Y legends were part of the story, you HAD to battle them. Every other one you listed is an optional/post game battle.
>>
>>377771164
>Enemy uses rock move
>it misses because of snow cloak
>Articuno sweeps
Oh shit it's almost as if hypothetical situations can make any Pokemon look as good or shitty as you want?!
>>
>>377771406
ORAS legends were pretty easy too though. If Deoxys' battle were in gen 3, it would have taken the same 40 Ultra balls.
>>
>>377771465
Except the sand veil shit's a key part to running Garchomp.
You have to make up a bunch of shit to show how Articuno isn't trash, Sneaky pebbles and Sand Veil Garchomp actually exist. Yours is hypothetical, the others are reality.
>>
>>377759802
I'm sure you only play mature games for mature people such as yourself, right?
>>
>>377771889
Only an idiot would send out Articuno without clearing ghostly gravel, which is why your hypothetical situation is kind of dumb in the first place.

Look, I ain't saying Articuno is good, I'm just calling you a retard for saying that it's awful because it doesn't work in a certain situation. I mean it's a pretty awful legendary, but saying "oh it's not good because spooky stones exists and it has weaknesses too!" is really stupid, especially considering that doesn't stop some Pokemon from being usable cough cough Volcarona cough cough Mega Charizard Y
>>
>>377754904
>old mechanics you don't miss thread

are you dense?
>>
>>377765452
X went out of it's way to include Soul Voices which are basically "hit the QTE/do the attack type being asked for for heals", unless they're literally redoing XC1 beat for beat there's no way they could be that stupid.
>>
>>377765949
Yes it was. The same way a 100% accurate move like peck still had a 1/255 chance of missing.
>>

That piece of wood saved my ass against that fucking shotgun Hunter
>>
>>377772379
No it fucking can't, at the very least not in Yellow.
I have no proof other than my own word, but I myself have gone through literal thousands and thousands of encounters with the legendaries to get them with specific IVs and giving myself 4 Master Balls to avoid the hassle.
Not ONCE has a Master Ball missed. Not a single goddamn time.

I don't care how many times you've used it without it missing, literally look at the fucking code of the game and the countless recordings of it missing for proof that it can, such as the gif in OP's post.

>>377775263
I like the beep, faggot. It's a audio cue to git gud.
>>
>>377775363
Fine, you wanna be a smartass?
I fucking dare you to find recorded evidence of a Master Ball missing in Gen1. I'll let you in on a secret though, you won't.
This Master Ball can miss in RBY meme should stop already. It never has missed, and it never will.

>>377776192
Enlighten me with said code then. Oh wait, you can't.
https://pokemondb.net/pokebase/143756/do-master-balls-ever-fail
Master Balls bypass the fucking formula altogether. They cannot miss.
And by the by, as it appears you're too much of a retard to notice in the first place, OP image shows an Ultra Ball.
>>
>>377757774
I used my first masterball on a fucking ponyta because the user manuals had a picture of a ponyta and the caption "Some pokemon will only ever appear once"
