PROS:
+Good voice acting, surprising for an English dub.
+Nice environments, atmosphere
+Great soundtrack
+Great story
+Some boss fights are pretty fun


CONS:
-All of the QoL things that have been implemented for the past six years of Platinum games (Ninja run so you don't trip over every little rock, a healing mechanic that isn't just mash the Start/Quick Heal Not Die button such as the Zandatsu from MGR, having increased speed after you've been running for a while be interrupted every time you jump/need to climb, etc.)
-No real combos to speak of besides light chain, heavy chain, light then heavy, launcher, and that stupid Pod kick that does fuck all damage.
-Weapon types give a bit of variation to the movesets but no real advancement in the combo department, and some weapons are just better than others no matter how much you upgrade
-One character who you spend probably more than half the game playing as completely removes the heavy button to replace with Hacking (Yes you can still get heavies by waiting after you've input a light, but that's still severely hampering the playstyle). Hacking is also the best way to do damage, and becomes incredibly boring after a while
-Open world does NOTHING for the game besides waste your time
-Side quests all have some good writing, totally hampered by awful fetch quests. Very few side quests that aren't just "go here collect trinket come back"
-Enemy designs are cute but boring to fight against, 85% of enemy encounters are just useless fodder you have to mash through, with the occasional big guy/ bullet shooters to liven things up

I mean it's a solid 7/10 on my own not-retarded game journalist meter, but I think people are blowing this way out of proportion. I enjoyed the Yoko Taro portions of this game WAY more than I ever did Platinum's, and I fucking hated Drakengard and could barely tolerate Nier.

The only reason this game is open world is to justify grinding out levels so that you don't spend an eternity fighting enemies and making room for the side quests, which could very well have been interesting if they all weren't just "fetch this part for me". Notice how I didn't say "So that if you go to an area that's too hard for you", because every enemy is incredibly easy to dodge and unless you're on Very Hard all you've got to do is equip yourself with an autohealing chip when you're not in combat/mash the item button to use one of your 99 Medium heals. If Platinum had bothered to make it so that you can get better moves/more combos as the game went on and added a few more enemy types they could have taken out the leveling system entirely and made the games' difficulty based on set encounters, not just five little hopping arm flailing robots in the middle of a field copy pasted like five times with some upgraded robots nearby.

It took me 57 hours to beat it (A-E) including 60-70% of the sidequest, fishing for about 3 hours and killing animals for no reason for about 5 hours. Some of it is afking, but do people just go straights into the main quest or something?

I really want to like this game but the gameplay is just pretty bland. It's sad but I had way more fun playing Transformers Devastation and I didn't even like the cartoons so I was not blinded by nostalgia.

NieR's soundtrack is amazing though

Just finished playing it in hard
it was pretty frustrating to get oneshot by everything, but you get +99 potions then it's not that hard.
I think the gameplay and the bosses could have been better, but the execution of the story and the cinematic is great, also the ost is top tier.

What? No. You replay the first 1/3rd of the game a second time as a new character. Heck it's not even the full repeat, as many segments are different when you're split up from 2B.

What the fuck? The main character should always be the best-looking thing in any game. Because that's the one thing that's going to be on the screen at all times.

Best character designs ever, extremely interesting world and backstory, fun combat, boss battles get super fucking hype around the true end, one of the best soundtracks of all time. On top of that it's unique and super different from any other game ever made. It doesn't even resemble the original Nier that much.

Maybe the thing I like the most is that it doesn't cater to casuals. Most games today put all the best content in the first 30 minutes because they're afraid that casuals who stop playing early won't see it. Taro saves the good content for later, so the game actually feels like it's constantly getting better as you play it, and even after beating it 5+ times you're still likely to have completely missed some of the best scenes (I missed the special scene that happens if you kill A2 by hacking, and that's like the single best hacking section in the game by a million miles, just completely missable).

About the only bad thing I can say about N:A is that the DLC is bad. And that's fixed by not buying the DLC.
