Why stay on 1.7.1 when basically everything good updated to 1.10 and soon to 1.11 and 1.12 because porting to new versions requires minimal amount of work thanks to small changes?

In fact 1.10 has mods there were impossible before in the way they work like Chisel and Bits if you're really into creative building.

as of a month ago, many of the major mods i like are still not updated past 1.7.10, some others are still 1.6.4 like applied energistics 1 (fuck AE2)

You have Refined Storage as a AE1 alternative.
Other than that EE didn't port yet because the author keeps playing. Thermal Foundation and Expansion were ported and the 3rd one that has the piping is following soon.

That's it as far as popular mods go. Rest is ported over. The mods that didn't probably won't because they were abandoned by the authors. I guess if you like some of them you have no choice but to stay. I got bored by old mods so now I'm testing out the new ones for the latest versions.

I think there are mods that lower the attack cooldown to 0 allowing you to spam your attack like before, but I don't know if there is one that removes also the side effect like the swords AOE attack.

it's really just the attack cooldown i don't want, especially because i have mods with a bunch of very difficult enemies/bosses, some of them are best fought when stunlocked with rapid hits against a wall, and i'm not sure if the new combat system would fuck all that up or not.

Did any of you guys try the Windows 10 exclusive version?
That shit runs so smooth it's 2 different worlds from the Java version. Too bad there are no mods and you can't pick the version to run. Also missing F3 which bothers me enough to not play it. But it just makes me even sadder that Minecraft wasn't originally written in a C-family language rather than Java and by competent people instead of Notch.
