You can't compare Disgaea's grind to regular game's grind.
Disgaea's grind is not actually your usual grind, while there is certainly some repetitive pattern you need to do, they usually no all that... same? as you might think.
Disgaea's grind is about exploiting game mechanics into your advantage. See the possibility to deal 10x time more damage and earn 100x more EXP? go for it. Then you'll see another possibility. And another.
And via such exploration of mechanics you get to lvl 9999.
After that you will be able to go from 1 lvl to 9999 in literally one attack, if you want.

Time wise - dunno, depends from person to person. If you want full enjoyment of gameplay exploration - you probably won't look into guides and such so you'll take your time with game.
It's really easier to think about Disgaea games - is that you can put them as much time as you want.
