What is wrong with current Minecraft? I played it for a couple of hours and it was basically the same, but with more things to do. The only complain I can understand is the combat system.

Minecraft was so good when you first play it. Learning how to play and becoming more skilled and knowledgeable was the best part. Once you know what to do it kind of just loses all fun. Pretty much the same reason terraria stops being fun and you can only play it for like an hour before realizing its not fun anymore.

There was nothing quite like the feeling of playing on a public server for the first time. Scrambling to get away as you're chased by someone in full diamond, dying at your base miles from spawn and realizing there's no way you're ever going to get back, coming across the ruins of someone's old building out in the middle of nowhere. There was so much wonder in that game.

I was always too scared to go into caves on my own, god damn terrifying. Still is.

I mean mobs that do things to give a sense of progression. If you start collecting enough diamonds, trolls show up to ransack your house, and they're capable of opening doors and letting themselves in. None of this "Enderman moves shit around and dirties up the whole server" shit, but mobs that actively seek out a treasure chest, break it, then take the contents if it's not protected by traps to stop them.

Borrow a page from those magic mods, where if you're doing stuff to produce a local pollution, it spawns monsters that feed on the stuff. Get into enchanting that affects the player character negatively. Challenge, progression, shit to work on and keep you busy and seeking more resources.

Find coal
Make torches
Hollow out and empty space to work in
Dig up some grass for seeds
Find iron
Make bucket

Game. Fucking. Solved. You know why people hate the hunger mechanic in Minecraft but not in "Don't Starve"? It's because in "Don't Starve" there are seasons that make varying food sources invalid and you're always on a hunt to survive. You don't plant a field of grain on day one and find yourself set to eat for a lifetime. You also don't need to spend 90% of your time carving out a mining networks of 2x1 hallways at the bottom depth of the server. In "Don't Starve", the best equipment is found by exploring and robbing ancient ruins fraught with horrible, unstoppable dangers.

Yes, Don't Starve has a better idea in terms of hooking you and leading you to the next big thing. In Minecraft, if you don't care about expanding your house to include the all-important fireplace, then you may as well not be playing.

Oh, and I want to add:
Minecraft used to be cool when exploring yielded interesting results. You'd wander a ways and find a big mountain that looks like a bird. That was great. I'd carve myself a fortress out of that.

But then they normalized terrain generation to ensure nothing interesting will ever appear naturally. That made it so that the only biomes that actually matter are forest biomes, because you need wood. Once you have some saplings, you can pretty much live anywhere and never run out of necessarily resources. There's no point in moving. The hill your house is sitting on now is no better or worse than the hill over. All biomes are equal and the same.

Additionally, you don't need to explore caverns or mines. It's less efficient and less safe than setting up your dull mining network. The only advantage to exploring a cave is that there's a slightly higher chance the diamond will be somewhere obviously visible.

And since diamond makes the best equipment and it's present in every chunk, who needs to go anywhere? Seriously. The game is beaten on day one, and thanks to terrain normalization, you've already seen nearly everything you're going to see without needing to leave the first biome if that biome had trees and grass.
