Video games are art the same way that checkers or hungry hungry hippos is art. They are not an established medium. They are games. Thr medium itself is at odds with the definition of art. To be a good game it must have good gameplay. To be good art it must focus on visual and emotional appeal which nearly always puts gameplay in the backseat.
