From what I understood from 3 hours of this, the themes of birth and rebirth in PT/Silent Hills (Lisa murdered while she was pregnant, fetus in the sink, "hung himself with an umbilical cord", endless hallway loop that continues even after you die) on top of SH's 'Otherworld' and alternate dimensions, fit into Death Stranding's themes enough that people think it's the next Silent Hill game or atleast think it's what Silent Hills was going to be.

MGSV Chapter 3 clues? There's only one emblem left in TPP to be released. It's a picture of Kojima's head and it's set to be released the first day of E3. "J-san" also joined the Survive team last week. J signs the PT system crash screen and J is on the entrance to the bridge Toro enters. J-san has been preaching nuclear disarmament. Nuclear disarmament was a rigged game from the start. For the first time in about seven months Konami have been providing consistent almost daily updates on the nuke counter. Silent Hills was cancelled, but Kojima still wanted to work with Norman Reedus so he put him in Death Stranding. Silent Hills and P.T. had the whole thing with umbelical cords, but Silent Hills was cancelled so Kojima put it in DS.

I highly doubt a company would put their PR on the line and make a bunch of customers pissed for buying an intentionally inferior product just so Kojima can make a le epic ruse cruise that a small subset of the fanbase would even understand.

The likely truth is that Konami kicked Kojima to the curb because he spent too much money on MGSV, and Kojima is making Death Stranding using a lot of the same ideas from Silent Hills.
