I played Oblivion for the first time a month ago. When it came out I wasn't into fantasy games. Coming out of the sewers for the first time, my reaction was:

Skyrim impressed me when it was new. But it doesn't really take much to impress me graphically.

I'm pretty sure it's still Crysis.

Cyris hasn't aged all that well visually without mods. The foliage is very impressively lush but even with AA it aliases like a bitch and the textures don't have good enough shaders to stop it from looking videogamey.

I'd argue even Halo 3 looks better then crysis now, if the resolution is equal.

Oblivion is a slow start honestly, but I still love it way more than any of the others, I just adore all the towns, the soundtrack, even the shitty character faces and voices are charming to me.

Regardless of what you think of the game I feel that The Last of Us was the best looking game of that gen.

I remember seeing Warhawk in a Playstation magazine when I owned a PS2 and being blown away by the graphics, but more importantly the fact that it was saying you're no longer limited to just fighting in the air, you can actually go down on the ground and fight on foot. I remember thinking as a kid that was totally unreal like all Ace Combat games in the future would be like that.

I thought the Halo 3 beta was literally the best looking thing I'd ever seen or would ever see. I was way less impressed when the game actually came out though

Oblivion Nehrim blew my mind and first VR first time playing RE7 was just something else than anything in gaming before but thats mostly to vr and probably not to the game entirely.

Ha. Halo 4 looked way better.

I honestly remember being totally blown away by GoldenEye back in 97. I couldn't imagine anything ever looking better (I'm 33)

Weird how our perspectives change.

Mirror's Edge. Not so much in terms of pure graphics, although it was pretty good, more in terms of daring to hope that devs would realize you can still have a realistic art direction while having interesting art design.

I was very impressed playing the first Dead Space.
I especially loved the immersive UI systems.
More recently Alien Isolation and P.T. kinda blow me away.
I know they look that good because they are indoors in small spaces but it is still pretty awesome.

i enjoyed it for the diverse world/hell gates.. it kinda felt like a 1st person diablo when i played it, where i could go anywhere and do anything. skyrim just felt really bland and boring to me, i couldn't get into it, but i was probably a completely different "gamer" when i got skyrim

This was hands down the best looking game of last gen. It had everything at the cost of a few frame rate hitches. The art, lighting, animation, polygons, effects. If you have a 360 or PS3, do yourself a favor and at least download the demo. Even if newer games in general are cleaner looking, have higher resolution or frame rate, I don't think they look nearly as good as this 2008 game.

Swamps, upland, snow covered mountains, heathland, meadows, forests, farmland, grotto's. It's based off Europe idiot, it's not going to have fucking flying pink cubes with eyes in it.

It's floaty but that's about it, you actually have to dodge and move to win a fight instead of just letting the auto-lock do it for you (Banham, Souls, Witcher)
