Did anyone else on /v/ play this game? I bet at least some of my fellow Scandinavians did.

I used to love this as a kid, and I would kill to find a working copy of the PS1 version. The Finnish dub of it was also great, and at points legendary. Good times.
>>
We had a thread like a week ago. I too thought this was just a nordic thing.

Turns out this fucker was goddamn everywhere EXCEPT for America.
>>
>>377681681
Wow really? I didn't know that.
>>
I had a Hugo PC game which had an advertisement for the PS1 version inside the case. Never actually tried the PS1 game myself.
>>
>>377681417
I've play the PC version, I believe it played like damn NES game. game which exists out of sections all with different gameplay. Shit had some casual filter parts and trial and error parts if I remember correctly.

Is there any way to get this working on a W10 PC?
>>
You used to play it on a TV show in the UK, pressing buttons on your home telephone to move the fucker in a TV studio. I thought I was living in the future
>>
>>377682474
The TV game was a thing in Finland too, though that was before my time
>>
>>377682278
I think you can find it on google by searching Hugo Classic. And yeah it was a 2D game, with trial and error parts
>>
We had a TV show of this game on Chile too
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lYDhtvSFGM

Would always fantasized of hacking the local in-game voices from these old TV clips into the PS1 games for maximum feels

I think I'm the only person from outside of Europe to play this on PS1
>>
In Russia we had it on Tv. You had to call in and play by pushing buttons on the phone.
>>
>>377685735
Same in Israel, but we had PC games for it too afterwards. https://youtu.be/c1zE9fHWkSY

Holy shit was the TV game a thing everywhere?
>>
>>377685884
Man watching this game was fucking cool. You'd get to hear kids breaking down in tears over missing jumps on that mountain one.
>>
>>377685804
It was a really fun game. You had a whip you could kill stuff with, levels where you are riding something instead of just platforming, good graphics for it's time.Only downside is that it was really short.

I was either too young, or the show was airing while I was living abroad, but I never personally saw the tv show. Shame
>>
>>377682474
We had the same TV show in France and I'm feeling old right now.

there were so many hugo games just on the PS alone
where the fuck did they get the money and support to keep making them well after the show aired?
I know the tv show was popular but I have never seen anyone play these games aside from /v/ threads

I played a Hugo PC game, that was like a gta ripoff, with boats... Anyone know the name?

>>
>>377681417
we had a tv show out of it in russland - you call up the studio and push the buttons on your phone to control hugo
>>
>>377689227
Nope, that's not the one. But i remember now, it was agent hugo.
>>
I used to watch that stuff on TV. You had to call the show and if you got through, you would play Hugo live on TV. It was the weirdest stuff.
>>
>>377682474
Same thing in Poland along with some dudes in the studio encouraging the players and stretching the length of the show.
>>
>>377689414
Oh right, that game. That one was weird.
>>
>>377681417
This was a kid TV "show" in Serbia. Kids would call and play by pressing 4 or 6 on their phones(for left or right). If you lost you got some shitty rewards, if you won the game you got some better rewards like a cool toy(Action-man/Barbie) and bunch of candy.

Also there was a sticker album, it was pretty popular.

There was also some cat after Hugo called Easy/E-zy or something like that. It was based on the same principle but was a bit harder.
>>
>>377689543
The mid to late 2000 were a weird time for gaming in europe. Loads of failed mascots, obscure franchises appearing and disappearing left and right, some bootlegs found their way in.

Holy fuck
Any other countries?
>>
>>377691828
In Germany we had them too. I was always mad at the fag kids, who were to stupid to play the games.
>>
>>377691958

Croatia as well, there is a video when a little girl swears while playing Hugo
>>
>>377691828
Spain.
>>
>>377692728
If I'm not mistaken there are several Hugo Classics(1,2,3,...) each one having a different, small collection of games
>>
>>377681417
What was the first level in that game?
Was there a PC port?
I remember I had a very strange Hugo game on PC, there was an eerie feeling to it and I hardly remember if it had any plot. The first level was in some dark jungle or something like that at night and Hugo was using something like a whip IIRC.

>>
>>377692992
That's true, but I think the classics are based on the console games, but are like light versions of them. Because I know that the PS1 Hugo had a sequel, though I never played it
>>
Wasn't the final level in the Hugo game that was played on TV completely luck based, with the player essentially just choosing a door and hoping that it's the correct one?
>>
>>377693046
You could play every level from the start, but I think the forest level was the first one
>>377693157
Holy shit, please take a pic from the disc
>>
>>377681417

when i was a kid this motherfucker scared the shit out of me way worse than any zombie or demon or monster could ever do

you see, everytime you die, this motherfucker just knock on your screen and goes "be careful next time" and that made me deathly afraid of him, like i thought he was just gonna come out of screen and berate me for real, the way he also NEVER break eye contact with his big ass fucking eyes was also extremely unnerving

was it just me? it can't have been just me, right?

I have very faint memories of the Hugo and Cirkeline games.

The games I played most in my childhood were Hydro Thunder, Tekken 3, and the Disney Hercules game, all for PS1.

Leaving my dad and brother in the dust (waves?) in Hydro Thunder are among my favorite memories. Fucking love that game.
