So i want to upgrade my system and i have a budget of about 500€, i'm currently using i5 3570k @ 4.6ghz + 8GB 1600mhz DDR3 + Zotac GTX 1070 hooked up on a 1440p AOC Agon AG271QG @ 165hz.

In terms of gaming i mainly play overwatch competitively and sometimes a new title if it piqued my interest.

Ryzen chips are gaining a decent performance increase with those last couple of bios and microcode upgrades and using a fast ram 3000mhz+ helps alot

My 1070 is currently enough to push those fast frames in overwatch and in terms of every other not so fast paced game im usually fine with 60-100fps

I render alot in 3ds max and reaper 5 thats one of the main reasons i want to upgrade so i need atleast 16gb of ram and definitely more than 4c+4t so the smaller ryzen&i5's drop out here.

Intel's probably gonna push the new generation to a higher budget usually around 30-40% higher than the last generation

So what do you think anons should i jump to red or wait for blue?
>>
Replace entire motherboard and spend thousands on DDR4 and fucking video cards.
>>
>>377675121
w8 for blue. I mean your 3570k runs at 4.6ghz do you really need an Ayymd CPU right now?
>>
>>377676895
well more threads would be nice, rendering eats alot of time

btw just noticed that intel+asus offer a 100€ cashback if you buy a 7700k + ROG Strix Z270

>>377677146
There's honestly no reason to upgrade your PC right now. The improvements you will see will be minimal and unless you just want a reason to waste money, then keep what you have until the next generation of architectures comes out.
>>
>>377675121
>i mainly play overwatch competitively
kek
>>
>>377675121
>I render alot in 3ds max and reaper 5 thats one of the main reasons i want to upgrade
Ryzen wins hands down, Intel is vastly inferior.
>>
>>377675121
Just an fyi the i5 can't utilize speeds beyond 2400Mhz RAM

You get more performance (fps) from a Ryzen 5 when paired with 3200Mhz and beyond

Take your own advice retard. A cpu with more threads is beneficial for rendering, which the op does. The i5 3570k is very outdated and only 4 cores.

Considering that the price of the 7700k is already 35% higher than the price of the 1600x the 6c chips from intel will probably be around 500-600 bucks so theyre out of my budget anyway

>>377678702
if you watched the recent benches after the bios updates youll see that the game perfomance increased by about 10-30% depending on the games.

And ryzen is probably still alot better than my 3570k
>>
Fuck this brand war and loyalty going on. Ryzen 5 is great for gaming and so is the Ryzen 7 line. You can't go wrong with that or the intel line 7600k or 7700k. if you are rocking any i5 processor from 3570k onwards you're fine. Its good intel has competition, I'm happy.
>>
>>377680343
honestly i was a intel boy before am4 simply because amd had nothing to offer but competition is really good even for people that want to buy intel cpus it drops the prices

in my case i dont care about the brand i just wanna find a product thats better suited for me

wait for intel

do you want something that doesn't break the bank and performs nearly as well, is available now, and is causing intel to panic and lower prices and overhaul their roadmap, possibly leading to competition happening once again?
buy amd
>>

other than that, be a pleb PC "master race" and buy Intel

>>
>>377675121
I've got a 3570k too. Been planning on getting a Ryzen 5 1600. Recently helped a friend build their first PC and used this chip. It really is fantastic for the price and I can't wait to upgrade.

For reference, I used an MSI B350 Tomakawk Mobo and 16GB kit of Crutial Ballistic Sport LT. After I got the BIOS updated, it ran flawlessly. It worked so well that I'm going to get all of the exact same parts when I upgrade.

Granted, my reason for upgrading is a lot different from yours (mobo is slowly dying, also really into emulation and desire CPU with faster L3 cache), but regardless, if you are doing productivity, you'd be mad not to jump on Ryzen if you're considering an upgrade. If all you are doing is gaming, 4.6 is a really good OC for a 3570k and you've probably got another 2 years of use if you wanted to wait.
>>
>>377682868
Since when has AMD been considered master race? AMD offers far more for the money, buying Intel with Ryzen out is literally retarded. On top of vastly superior multitasking, any frame dips you would see when comparing Ryzen to Kabylake would only be noticeable on a 144Hz monitor, which most ppl don't have.

>>
>>377675121
Go with amd.

Intel's next lineup is the same shit as before with tiny incremental improvements. Don't pretend you know more than intel. Consumers are mostly idiots and will buy 1% upgrade just because it's brand new. They have no reason to push a 40% improvement any time soon. More cores are still reserved for the high end consumer with money to burn. You ain't affording them. If you're playing games at 1440p with a 1070, then you don't have to worry about cpu clocks since the gpu will choke way before you reach 144fps.

If you're talking about Intel's IPC and price per core, then yes, I'd take it to nothing has changed since 2011 when Sandy Bridge came out, but Intel has been able to refine their architecture to allow impressive clock speeds. Also now that AMD is actual competition offering Haswell IPC with more cores and threads than Intel at a cheaper price and lower tdp.

The fact that the 1600, a 6c/12t haswell equivalent ipc at stock speeds is 65w tdp is jawdropping. And the fact that it is only $210 and has an unlocked multiplier and can OC to 3.8-4.0Ghz on the stock cooler makes it that much more appealing.

To say hardware as a whole has not changed since 2014 is just stupid tho

L3 cache has also gotten a lot faster since Sandy Bridge. That paired with the move from DDR3 to DDR4 and higher clock speeds is still a decent improvement, but Intel could've done more these past 6 years for sure.

In replacing my 2500k 4.6 with ryzen when vega releases

It hits 90-100% usage in modern games and sometimes bottlenecks my regular 980

1600 is what I'm going for as it's roughly the same price I got my i5 for years ago, if I want to upgrade on the Intel side its either 7700k + mobo which is way more expensive than the ryzen route and is still only quad core, and coffee lake 6 cores will be even more expensive
>>
>>377689938
what resolution are you playing at? Even though, I'm planning on doing the same with my 3570k, a 2500k at 4.6Ghz should not be bottlenecking a 980
>>
>>377690063
1080p. It depends on the game, battlefield 1, deus ex md, Warhammer are the first games that come to mind where the cpu is at 90-100% usage and gpu usage fluctuates.

Actually thinking back ac unity/syndicate runs crap on i5s too but fine on i7s

I remember witcher 3 stuttering in novigrad until I locked to 60fps too. I'm using 120hz
>>
>>377689938
I don't expect anything decent from intel until maybe cannonlake. I don't expect much from coffeelake
>>
Coffee Lake will cost more than Ryzen but will perform slightly better with higher power usage.

it's a kaby lake with extra cores. aka nothing revolutionary and you can't go wrong with picking a 1700 or 1600.

unless you're planning to play on a 144Hz monitor then go for Intel.
>>
>>377690237
>120hz

ok, that makes more sense
>>
>>377690302
Yeah I guess, for example battlefield 1 runs fine locked to 60fps however if I unlock the framerate it goes to 70ish fps but with stutters, cpu usage 100% while gpu is at like 60-80%.

With an i7 or ryzen the gpu would be used fully and id be getting 100+fps
>>
>>377690449
I'd look up benchmarks on 3770k. Maybe buy a used one and get some extra ram instead of buying into a completely new platform.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZxZiksWtRQ
>>
>>377690542
Its too expensive in the UK,around the same price as the 1600. Feel like I need more ram too, buying ddr3 feels like a waste would rather have a new platform

You have a i5 3570k @ 4.6ghz, fucking wait 9 months for Zen2. Cheap 8 core that is going to be 25-35% better than the current zen models thanks to higher clocks, mature motherboard drivers, better ddr4 ram support and IPC improvements (Zen is said to have a ton of little errors and bugs that they had no time to fix, so all the fixes and improvements are going to be a nice IPC jump in zen2).
