He's overblowing it, but he's partially right. Even if you do sprinting for whole 30 fucking minutes, which would kill 100% of virgins on this board, you would still burn only around 500 calories. It seems a lot at first, until you realize a single hamburger has 250 calories in it.

Realistically, most people don't burn more than 300 calories during exercise (that sprinting example is severe, as you have to be a fucking beast to do HIIT for 30 minutes, let alone sprint the entire time), so basically all that time in the gym nullifies the effects of eating a single hamburger, if we view it strictly from the weight loss POV.

That's not really how intermittent fasting works. You eat the food you're supposed to eat in as many sittings as you like, you just need to compress the entire food intake time interval to some 6-8 hours per day, so you end up with 6-8 hours of eating time period of 16-18 hours long fasting time period.
