Bought street fighter V in the steam winter sale and really got into fighting games since, so I'm going to pick this up. Josie is best girl but Kazuya looks like a really solid defensive character with a high mechanical skill ceiling which i like. Not sure who i'll eventually main.

I want this game so bad, every fighting game I play is dead or shit, lethal league has filled that hole.

There's a definite adjustment period, as the game will feel like a spam-fest at first. But it'll come naturally by playing it, seeing what works, and more importantly playing against other people online.

Can't wait. I've pretty much given up being competitive at 2D fighters, as much as I love playing them. I've gone back and played some T6 and TTT2 the past couple weeks and I'm looking forward to, if nothing else, spending a shitload of time in training mode. If I can get good enough to not waste my opponent's time, all the better.

One of the things I don't think I'll be able to wrap my head around is movement- players always seem to be doing something but I can't even begin to understand when and why you move forward, back, to the side, etc... And that seems to be a huge part of the game.

Hyped for the release, but it'll be my first real one. Been messing around in a PSP emulator with 6 while trying to get comfortable with all the mechanics. Interested in how comfortable all the new characters feel and play. I've enjoyed fundamental, defensive or counterattacking characters in other games.

Are the characters from tekken 5 basically the same in tekken 7? This is my first tekken game and I'd like to learn some about how to play before I get ass raped. Been messing around with law a bit on emulator, trying to get some combos down, but I don't know if this will help me if the moves are changed anyway

Nah, man. You will have maybe 5-6 hours of fun with the story content but it's like playing chess against bots, there is zero fun to be had. The best part about fighting games is the mind game like in chess. Learning combos, movement and other execution skills is just there so you have all your tools ready for the mind game.

It really depends on whether you like the series and have played the others.

It's my favourite series simply for single player shit alone and I barely play online. I enjoy the characters and it looks like they've put a lot of effort into making this a real good tekken game for offline stuff.

In Tekken 6 they had really cool customisation options, but not a lot of offline options to acquire the ingame currency. In TTT2 it was super easy to get that currency, but then there was too many characters and all the customisation stuff seemed boring and the same.

I heard in this game there's a treasure mode, where you actually have to fight characters that wear specific items to get those items. Which sounds fun to me.

I remember going through Tekken 5 and just looking at how many individual moves each character had. Kazuya and Heihachi only had 150-200 moves. That was pretty standard.

Lei had 620 or so. It was fucked. I remember reading about how memorising other characters moves is just as important as memorising your own, because you need to learn what their mixups could be or the frames of other characters moves. That's almost impossible for a character with over 500 moves.

Sorry but you're remembering wrong. Kaz and hei have about 90 and lei has about 140 to 160.

What you're saying still applies though. I have this one move where he soes a mid punch that looks alot like some other moves but you can continue it into a falling low punch that goes into his face down feet away stance. Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK/Injustice have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

Not exactly. Combos in Tekken come from minor stuns and float damage (juggling). GG is quite a bit more manic. You should have a much easier time with Tekken.
