Alright folks, I can't find a straight answer on the internet so I've come to you fine people.

I am looking to get a 1080ti and a 7700k, but I want to know this: is any AA option necessary if I am playing at 4k on a 24 or 27 inch 4k display?

get a ryzen

That still doesn't answer my question.

are you getting a ryzen now

Ultimately comes down to the game and what AA they support
Some have really badly done AA, or AA that doesn't work well with 4k

Otherwise it's alright, especially on games with lower model fidelity (which are usually, but not always, older games)

You want to know if upscaling stuff to 4K that already is at4k is necessary with a 4k monitor?
>>
>>377666460
No. I want to know if I need to use AA while gaming at 4k. Because AA is almost always a huge performance hit.

Seems like you have no idea how AA works buddy.
>>
>>377666821
It blurs the edges of shit so it doesn't have jaggies. At higher resolutions, the jaggies are less noticeable.
>>
>>377665541
No, op, you don't need AA at 4k. It's literally pointless to have.

I'm a Intel loyalist, you have to give me a damn good reason why I should betray my lord and savior Intel and go sell my soul to the devil AMD
>>
>>377667870
its just little bit better than intel counter part
if you already have decent Intel CPU there is absolute no reason to switch
>>
>>377667870
intel a backdoor with nsa
better fast and speed more core
nice value for dollar

No, its not, but neither is the 4k monitor at those screen sizes and monitor viewing distances.
There is a point of diminishing returns and if you're fussing about AA settings then you probably shouldn't have bought that monitor. That card still barely hits 60fps in modern titles at those resolutions.
Its a meme res for a reason jack.
>>
>>377667516
Do you know how it works though? Why don't you take a quick trip to Google and come back.

i literally just bought this combo today hoping that its overkill.
have to wait 2 weeks for my whole build to arrive though
>>
>>377668491
I hope all goes well for you. I just want to be able to play video games for a long while. But shit seems to be impossible to keep at 60 fps anymore.
>>
>>377670010
yeah my comp was dated as fuck and i was on xbone/ps4.
4k gaming is a meme atm though, so i wouldn't plan on going for it. and i have a 4k tv.
>>
>>377665541

you don't really need AA on a 24 or 27 inches screen, aliasing is gonna be very fuckin minimal given the ppi and should really not bother you, unless you play with your nose sticked to the screen

Aliasing on 4K is potentially more of an issue if your connect your pc to a 65 o 85 inches screen, but again, in that cae you're gonna be minimum 2 meters from the screen and it shouldn't bother you
>>
>>377667870
Forget that faggot, just wait for the new Intel CPUs, they look promising.
>>
It depends on the game/engine being used but typically I only need to use FXAA or SMAA, cheap post process AA solutions and never need to touch MSAA or SSAA anymore.
>>
>>377668379
a simple answer would have sufficed, you don't have to be so condescending to him
>>
>>377667870
intelfag here using ryzen
i can tell you that if you play to stream or use any other programs that require a few cores go with ryzen, otherwise wait for new intel processor or go 7700k

ryzen is pretty gud tho
>>
It's better to have it than not have it. It's not like supersampling 4k onto a 1080p monitor, at natural resolution you're always going to have jaggies its just the ppi hides it a bit better. I always hear people say shit like 'the human eye can't notice a difference at this PPI' blah blah blah, but you will after enough time using it. Or straight away if you're like me.
>>
>>377670872
Tell me again why I should pander to retards.
>>
>>377665541
You kidding right? you need x2 1080ti SLI minimum for 4k games. That or lower to medium/high settings.
>>
Some temporal AA will help, since temporal aliasing will always be noticeable no matter the resolution due to how the human eye perceives movement. Static aliasing is hard to see at high DPI's, but shimmering when you move the camera or whatever stands out no matter what because we're hardwired to pay attention to movement
>>
>4K gaming
all of it looks like shit anyway
>>
>>377672783
minimum? That's literally pretty much the MAXIMUM setup you can possibly have right now on a single gaming PC.

4k is a meme anyways, 1440p is much better, and a single 1080, not even a Ti can handle most games maxed at 1440p.
>>
>>377668491
I just built with a 1080 and 7700k last week, and have absolutely no issues with anything I play on max settings with a 24in 4k display. The ti just adds some extra channels to the basic 1080 so yeah, it'll probably just be overkill.
>>
>>377672237
Because you are one, and others would do the same for you
>>
>>377674143
And yet you cannot find the answer yourself before making this thread. A quick google check would tell you how AA works, and would also give you your answer. Instead you expect people to take off your retard helmet so they can sit you down and play airplane as they spoonfeed you.
>>
>>377673462
t.console peasant
>>
>>377673584
What kind of FPS are you getting? Are you playing with or without AA?
>>
>Getting a 4K monitor now

Current 4K monitors suck ass due to no HDR

Wait for 4K HDR monitors
