They've largely fixed the AI. No more random declarations of war and denouncements every 1o turns.

AI vastly improved. No more constant holy wars between 4 nations in the middle of your country.

They gave the game a longer life cycle. Civ 5 does not look as good now as it did when it came up, but cartoony graphics don't age nearly as fast
