Damnit I need to replay Diablo. Scared the hell out of me when I was 6 and watching my dad play.
The Butcher scared me so badly I would skip him until I learned Hydra and could just spam them in his room. It was even my first multiplayer experience and I remember there being alot of roleplay in chat.

So I played a lot of Diablo 1, but never Diablo 2.

I've got a copy of it, both a boxed and an old ISO from when it could be modded. I don't plan to play on online should I use Median XL or some other mod out there to just boost it up a bit to modern monitors. I don't want to ruin the atmosphere, but better resolution is good.

Sprites meant for 800x600 can look a bit rough at 1080 though. Older monitors being smaller and with a natural blur kinda eased that to look nice.

Could a "realistic" inventory system where you look at what's actually on your person like in the recent alone in the dark game be made to work?

I always thought that in the future this type of menu operated menu system would become obsolete because we would simply be able to see how much room was in our bag or whatever as graphics/physics/realism improved in games.

I don't think there has been any real attempt at this however. When I was modding Skyrim there was a mod that added storage capacity with bags and pouches that were added onto your character and steed but that's all I can think of recently.

Maybe it's just too boring of a thing to focus on.

Could be, but it would require some good context. AotD's survival horror setting worked, since it meant you had to really think about what items you'd need to survive the next section, but for a pure FPS it would be shit, since those are about quick agency with your inventory.

I suppose it could work for RPGs, where you'd physically look in your traveling pack to find items and maybe add holsters/straps to hold more weapons.

Generally Red is seen as a caution color because its the color of blood. Green as healthy because its the color we can see the easiest. And blue as relaxing as our vision shifts too it in lower light and night conditions of rest.

Its pretty lizard brains so I'm curious what culture influence can do it if its strong enough.
