>“Obsidian did a great job of capitalising on the timing of Kickstarter and the wave of nostalgia for these type of titles,” goes his hypothesis. “We've seen that most of the titles after Pillars of Eternity, if you look at Wasteland, Torment - they haven't been anywhere near that kind of success. So maybe it's that a lot of nostalgia fed into the initial bubble and that's why. These games have a market, but it's never gonna be that peak [again].”

Wow it's like Obsidiots don't want to admit that Obsidian creates generally unlikable and unsellable games

>B-BUT POE SOLD!

Only because of Baldur's Gate nostalgia

This game, this... Piles Of Shiternity, by none other than Niggersidian E̶n̶t̶e̶r̶t̶a̶i̶n̶m̶e̶n̶t̶ is decline of the highest order, eclipsing even Brian Faggo's Waste Of Time 2.

>>

Both are still great games and sold enough to get a sequel that fans clearly wanted.
>>
>>377646472
I actually got bored of Pillars about halfway through.

Yet I'm hooked to Baldur's Gate, I never got to play it before. I wonder why is that?
The world building in BG seems more interesting to me, at least.
>>

The only thing wrong with your post is implying RPGCodex hates PoE - they're as big of plebs as you and love that shit.
>>

Larian won the race to be first to catch the nostalgia wave.
It was like a can of spam to a starving man and the fans devoured it ravenously.
By the time Tranny came out it was just another can of spam.

The nostalgia wave crashed at ankle level so STFU about the return of the golden age.
>>
even call of duty has better dialogue than the autism cancer that obshitian releases.
>>
>>377647081
your out of your god damned mind dude. i'd gladly play pillar's of eternity 5 more times before having to put up with baldur's gate 1's low level d&d bullshit again.
>>
>>377647081
>Yet I'm hooked to Baldur's Gate, I never got to play it before. I wonder why is that?

This happened to me with Bioshock. Pirated it, thought it was just okay with a bad ending.

Downloaded and played System Shock 2 because that was the supposed inspiration, and I beat it shortly that week because of how good it was.

>The world building in BG seems more interesting to me, at least.

Because it's not forced on you like Niggers of Eternity or Tyranny which lore dumps at you within first second you start the game.
>>
>>377647094
>What about that sentence is wrong?

It's the way they talk tough, reminiscent of /b/ 10 years, not the opinion itself.

because tyranny and pillars of eternity are both original settings whereas BG was part of the forgotten realms setting which was already the basic go to D&D setting for anyone who had done tabletop. coincidentally i think forgotten realms is boring as fuck as a setting was really enjoyed the setting of pillars and tyranny.
>>
>>377646915

Nah, the D&D association didn't help Planescape: Torment. T$R nerds were obsessed with Forgotten Realms. Spelljammer and Planescape were too fantastic for your average neckbeard who only wanted to play in generic Tolkeinverse that their Drizzt Drourden and Dragonlance took place it.
Numenerea was trying to ride coattails of a game none of them had any connection to using a SJWy setting/dev team.

Multiple reasons.

In order to make one of these games a big hit you need to make it extremely memorable and to do so you need :

1. An extremely good story with memorable set-pieces.
2. Characters that people talk about independently of the game
3. Memorable love interests
4. No episodic content shit or "we'll continue this in the next game guise, tune in!!"
5. Setting and gameplay that are not completely derivative crap

I liked Tyranny but it's really overpriced, doesn't exactly deliver on a lot of expectations it sets up, and ends on an extremely anticlimatic and railroaded cliffhanger. Feels like a Disc 1 but you have to wait for maybe Disc 2 to come out and also pay for it.
>>
>Loyal "until she senses weakness"

That's the exact opposite of what loyalty means though. Loyalty is standing beside someone even in a moment of weakness; disloyal treason is backstabbing them the moment you think you can get away with it. That sentence merely enforces the realization that Kills-in-Shadow must be kept in a master-slave relationship by the Overlord because it's an animal that lacks the capacity to understand a higher level abstract idea like loyalty. That being the case it's true that she isn't really evil since she lacks the moral perspective to be good or evil--it's just an instict-driven beast. You don't apply human alignments to dogs and cats, do you? They're amoral beasts.

She is probably sick and tired of it. Amy was not just a writer, she was passionate about game design. There was that one time when she gave an interview about how much she enjoyed the technical aspects of making the seamless map of the first Soul Reaver, and how proud they were when they managed to make it work.

Do you think a person like her would still find enjoyment in modern AAA development?

>Good idea
Allow players to choose dialogue that they'd actually want to say whether it be good, evil or neutral aka any RPG worth its salt

>Bad idea
Force the player to play someone that at worst, can only be chaotic neutral cause the character is still a good guy that can't do anything bad aka Witcher 3

>Good idea
Having character stats that define your character and allow for non violent approaches aka Fallout and Planescape Torment

>Bad idea
Being forced to play a single set character that does nothing but sword fight aka Geralt in Witcher 3

>Good idea
Being able to roleplay a character of several races, genders, etc aka Dragon Age Origin and Morrowind

>Bad idea
Despite the lore saying otherwise, force the character to play only one character aka Geralt in Witcher 3

>Good idea
Having multiple characters that fulfill multiple roles your main PC can't aka Baldur's Gate 1/2

>Bad idea
Being a multiclassing Mary Sue aka Geralt in Witcher 3

>Good idea
Having Batman vision in a Batman game aka Arkham games

>Bad idea
Having Batman vision in a non-Batman game aka Witcher 3

Just remembered a specific moment in the game that made me somewhat mad seeing how little thought had been given to the the implications of the setting.

You want to pass a bridge and there's mercenary levying a pay for passage. And there's that whole conversation about how they have aright to make a leaving, but not once is mentioned the fact that... you're the representative of the power that just conquered the land, and of course you can't allow random people to just levy taxes, you *can't* allow it. No central power survives that kind of disruption in prerogatives.
They'd have to pay tribute to Kyros, and/or obtain permission first.

You have to stop it.

Shit I completely forgot about this game.

It came out not even recently. That shows how little I've been following WRPGs. I will probably give it a try.

woah really made me think

I'm afraid this anon may have a point

what did they mean by this
>>
>Pillars is good after DLC/patches
>Sells well
>Wasteland 2 is a buggy broken piece of shit after Arizona, even in the DC
>Doesn't sell as well
>Tryanny sucks dick
>Doesn't sell at all
>Planescape sucks dick
>Doesn't sell at all

Man I wonder what the reason is? Maybe, when you make good games, people buy them?

>Bards Tale in development
>Wasteland 3 in development

I don't think you know what "crashed" means.

fun story
excellent spell crafting
too short
>>
I just wanted to take Divinity Original Sin engine and use it with custom maps to play D&D online

Anyway to do it?
>>
>>377659859
POE isn't a good game, it rode the nostalgia wave by pretend it was as good as BG1 (it isn't)
>>
>>377659859

I was legitimately disappointed in Numenera. I didn't find it atrociously awful, but it wasn't even near what I was hoping for. A shame as I really like far flung post apocalyptic settings.

>where your character says nothing outside of what dialogue option you click on?
yes

actually, your character is motly silent outside of answering questions and sometimes having an inner voice explaining things ("you feel queasy" or "you sense X from Y")

your post isn't a good post

the point is that you can't tell him to shut up
>>

You can though. When he interjects, you can just tell him to "fuck off". The retard who wanted to post that bait image however chose the "no, tell me more" option, which leads to said picture.

Forgotten Realms was even at the time of BG1 an old well established setting filled with shit-tons of lore that many different hands have contributed to. It is nearly impossible for one company on their own construct a setting with as many complexities as FR. The gameplay of PoE is definitely superior to BG1 at least.

That being said like all settings for stories you can take or leave it. Plenty of people don't like FR. As for me I view it along with Tolkien's work as basically defining what is meant by high fantasy.

>>377659771
He doesn't really. Both Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun were faster to come out than Divinity.
>>
>>377662496
Sure but they were both either cuck shit or just shit
>>

>PoE2 surpasses PoE1 funding
Only because of investors, It didn't even get half as many backers as the first campaign.

>DivOS2 surpasses DivOS1 funding
The funding of D:OS was very low compared to other high profile KS projects that came before and after it. The funding of D:OS2 was still much lower than those.

>Pathfrinder interested in contracting Obsidian for a Pathfinder cRPG
Bull fucking shit. The survey was never Obsidian's, they even said so. They just helped out by letting people know about it.

D:OS2 will have Game Master mode that does this.
>>
Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun Returns had the benefit of not having to make their own engine, opting to use Unity instead.

Unity has a battery of issues but it's useful for developers who lack technical know-how. Larian had the technical know-how to make their own engine and DivOS and DivOS2 will benefit GREATLY from this. Meanwhile, Unity projects will still be stuck with engine problems like the shitty loading times, gameplay limitations, overall general ugliness (Harebrained made a much aesthetically better looking game than Brownland 2 though)

When the fuck are we getting Divinity 3?
>>
>>377664056
Please tell me D:OS2 will have character import/exporting like the older D&D and NWN games. That's the only thing that stopped D:OS1 from being perfect.

Divine Divinity 2 when?

I have not been able to get into any of their recent 2d rpgs.

I think they're around mostly because of Gen Y gamers looking back with too thick nostalgia goggles
