naissancee comes close and scratches a lot of itches for someone looking for a BLAME!-like game because the atmosphere is almost perfect. If you're hoping it has anything like the safeguard or any real enemies for that matter you're out of luck - you don't get any weapons either.

Does someone know if the movie is any good ? I really love Blame, but I don't like much that strange CG they used for the movie. It's okay on screenshots but it doesn't feel natural nor fluid at all in motion... Is it better than in the Berserk movies ?

All of Nihei's stuff that I've read has been full of wasted potential. I read this up until right after they ascended that giant pillar into the next level as it liquefied underneath them.
I found the characters so bland and underdeveloped that I could literally not continue despite all the eye candy, but that was a while ago and I think I'm ready to give it a second chance.
Someone tell me, does the main character actually grow past being a bland "tough guy" cliche and get some depth, or does it just keep on with the status quo?

So how would you develop a Blame game /v/? It has to be fun, not just a walking simulator, and it has to capture the feel too of course. Can not have infinite budget, you must assume realistic limitations, but you can have stuff like procedural generation of course.

>>
>>377646620
Fuck no. Is horrible as hell. 12 FPS CG, is worse than playing games that dip in frames. They try to emulate drawn pictures with limited animation, but is just don´t work in CG. Story is original. They took the Electro fisher arc as base. Is not really about wandering around and seeing cool stuff and have action here and there. Is a generic action movie, about the the people that live in the safe zone and their encounter with the main character of the manga. Music is weird, the calm moments are great, synth and mysterious chanting + GitS like Asian melody, then when action comes we get generic hollywood "epic" action soundtrack. Chibo also gets fucked over in the movie.

Fuck this entire movie.

Blame does have character development, its just very muted and not overly pronounced.

Killy knows what his job is and what's at stake, if people really think he needs somekind of internal crisis to "spice up the story" then they need to read a different story. Blame isn't Blame without Killy being who he is.

You can´t even read a short post correctly, and I should take your word that you read the manga, that honestly is sparse on words? But I guess you don´t even have the attention span to look over the pictures.
>The movie did everything it needed to do
You mean blow the big netflix budget on a forgettable movie that will fail to even draw the normalfags? Then yes, it succeeded throwing that money away.

A chance to realize the world of Blame!, the long and horrendous journey through the megastucture finally to be animated with vision, is instead just another action movie. Yeah fuck you for not caring about animation, the franchise and being satisfied with fucking nothing. Polygon Studio was one of the worse choices they could have picked.

In addition to the scratchy, "lived in" artstyle, Blame! and Dorohedoro also have a very similar sense of morality. Characters have individual goals which they pursue (often ruthlessly) without a narration trying to fit it into a greater conflict of good vs. evil.

>A chance to realize the world of Blame!, the long and horrendous journey through the megastucture finally to be animated with vision, is instead just another action movie

The movie did all of that though, they just chose the perspective of people who want somekind of stability while they make it clear that Killy is a guy who marches through all that shit.

I would have liked to see the Silicon creatures and other stuff, but really the movie was good for what it was and will be a nice intro to the setting for people who want more. Ultimately what you're asking for is more suited to a TV show than a movie which only has an hour to get stuff going.

No one is going to convert Blame as is to an animation. These things need to generate money, and a having a long series with a monosyllabic protagonists and mostly silent antagonists, that doesn't tell you anything about what's going until it's about halfway done is not gonna hook normies.

The movie was framed in the best way possible to attract dummies. Telling as a coming of age story and having as follow it through Dzuru's eyes gives it the structure less adventurous people need to keep up with it. It also spells out the main conflict for Killy through the fishermen, introduces Cibo in a really cool way, and informs the audience of how this world is structured and some of the dangers within it. So if a sequel is ever made, the audience can follow the story with an established protagonist to root for and a clear purpose, though they'll probably use something Seu and Mensab's arc to frame any subsequent story, because Killy's super-stoic laser focus is not usually the joy of audiences, who prefer charming characters to charming worlds.

That said, I agree with you on the frame count of the animation. It got choppy as fuck at times.
>>
what is the premise of blame?

howd these characters get stuck in this infinitely large mega structure
>>
>>377653183
>The movie was framed in the best way possible to attract dummies.

Why even put it this way? Blame's writing was never anything smart, as much as I like it.

The manga is a wacky picaresque deal with an awkward start, while the movie is just fucking Mad Max.
>>
>>377653447
Because the writing needs to exist in order to pull in people who aren't usually going to look at something awkward or focused on pure visuals

It has been a lot of time since I have read about it but if I remember correctly it is something like

>be type 2 civilization
>also find a way to make matter out of nowhere (or something like that)
>use this together with controlled "builders" to expand exponentially
>connect this giant structure with a very evolved version of the internet which now regulates everything including the builders
>faction is rebelling
>they fuck up with the internet
>builders go out of control and expand the city eating the damn solar system
>they also spread cables for this internet along the way but the city gets so big that the network is failing
>everything is in shambles
>only way to save the city is to stop the builders aka fix the internet

Correct me if I am wrong. I do not even remember why the silicone guys rebel in the first place.

But not all mangas needs a good "story". Or at least how you seem to define a good story.
The whole point of Blame IS that lack of dialogues between the characters, that incomprehensible world, the unclear motivations behind Killy's action... That is what makes Blame a great manga. It's completely atmospheric. It's just a pure and good feeling of loneliness. And that silent narration is the best thing about the series.
>>
>>377654039
Just make a roguelike, you can do much more via that route than any 3D game. Hell many games already have features that will compliment a Blame-ish style.

>DF has the fuckuge dungeons
>Brogue has the interesting floor mechanics
>games like Nethack and IVAN have perfected "fuck you" tier difficulty

and you can easily make a GBE style weapon work without all the limitations of 3D
>>
Is it retarded if I say Let It Die, early on I just got a similar feeling when crawling around in those corridors climbing upwards. Plus the mechanical enemies

More drama than action but I am a Hero
And I mean drama in the classical sense, not in the ecchi slice of life sense.
It's kind of like a Japanese The Walking Dead, except good.

is the movie good? it looks awful. blame is legit the only manga ive ever enjoyed

>>377654415
People kinda just fail to realize that character development/change is just one tool of many in a storytellers box.

There are a great many good stories where a character dosent change, or even go at length behind why they do what they do, but they still work since the story's entire point is played through those actions.
>>
>>377654696
I am a Hero is an insane manga.
It's easily in my top 5. And I fucking hate zombie stories, so that says a lot.

And the end of the manga is near I think

While I think that could be fun, half the appeal is the aesthetic, so ideally I'd want a 3D game. If that guy from years ago continued his work, that would be great.

>character development/change is just one tool of many in a storytellers box

This is very true. Also, I would add that I think a lot of mangakas, in shonen most particularly, are completely obsessed with characters development, and are unfortunately not good at that, leading with clichées and / or stupid tropes. You can tell stories in so many ways.

I'll take the example of Metroid from earlier : in the Prime saga, most of the story is told by codex data. It's great. You completely feel alone in a lethal planet, fighting for your life. In Other M, the story goes full dialogues, monologues, etc. just to create a more "human" Samus. It's a total fail. Samus has become nothing more but a cliché character. The story is god awful.

Results : Retro Studios created a much more interesting and human Samus (and games) than Team Ninja, just by having the character shut her mouth, and because the whole universe of the game made you feel what you think she was feeling.

When in Prime, you felt alone like Samus. Other M was basically Samus telling you she was alone. This is the difference.

Sometimes the best way to tell a story is by saying nothing at all.

Feel like the BLAME! Net animations are heavily underrated. Really capturess the atmosphere the manga got.

Was so dissapointed when they released the first Netflix trailer. If you want to make a movie based on a manga, with an appeal to the masses, why the fuck pick BLAME!.

I'd learn how to do procedural generation well. Then I'd figure out how to do procedural architecture well. Then I'd figure out how to do procedural cities well. Then I'd figure out how to do procedural silicon and human life well.

Then I'd figure out how to make ALL OF THAT 100% destructible. Then I'll figure out how to render all of that in a volume that's 72km^3.

Then I'd figure out how to do procedural lakes, oceans, rivers, lava floods, and machine to machine interaction. Then I'd figure out procedural builders. Then I'd have to figure out gravity furnaces. Then I'd have to figure out Psi-tech that's also procedural.

AND HOPEFULLY, I'll achieve all of that before I'm dead; and I'll make everything open source. Such that, in case of my timely or untimely demise, everyone will have all my assets and code, to continue this project.

That's how I'd develop a BLAME! game.
