A majority of the gaming community here are high school/college students or freshly out of college, not everyone can afford it because their money from their jobs needs to go towards saving and rent. That or we don't want to apply for neetbux. A console is an investment you expect to get a lot of years out of, the second a new console is released it devalues your investment.

They're not "future proof", for God's sake look a the PS4 Pro and Scorpio. They were so embarrassed they had to put out the refreshed hardware upgrades but they're not a real next gen, at least not the PS4 Pro. They're both at the halfway point of their life cycles, people were already asking for new hardware back in 2009/2010 and the PS3/360 were only like 3-4 years old at that point.

Just because they aren't future proof doesn't mean the average person needs new hardware a few years after launch. What happened in 2009 or 10 isn't indicative of current day. Gaming as a whole isn't an exponential curve in advancements, more logarithmic. Currently the industry doesn't need better graphics and processing to thrive, it needs more innovation and unique ideas. You do not need better hardware for this.
My original PS4 I bought around release still works just fine, and can play any new game at a level that I can appreciate. A frame drop maybe once an hour is not worth hundreds of dollars to remove for me, plus likely more expensive games.

The ps5 will loom alot like the switch but with a sony tablet ans running android
