Episode 3 was the beginning of the end. By killing off the daughters of Aku so quickly and anticlimactically, we were left off without a major antagonist for the remainder of the season, except for Aku, who Jack couldn't even fight until he got his sword back. So Genndy was left with two options. Either make the rest of the series be about Jack reuniting with his old friends/people he helped, amassing an army to take down Aku, and getting his sword back at the last moment for an epic final confrontation, or pander to waifufags by introducing a literally who mary sue who takes up half of the screentime and who ends up beating Aku. The last thing that I would have wanted would be Jack killing one daughter per episode like people were presuming. My main issue with Samurai Jack season five is how linear and contrived it is. The series up to that point aside from the first two episodes and the Aku origins story had been individual vignette stories of Jack's adventures. I didn't enjoy being railroaded into an extremely straight-forward and much more dialogue-focused version of the show featuring one of the lamest female sidekicks in years.

Samurai Jack is not kino. It lacks the visual focus of kino. You are a mongoloid op.

It should have been a movie like originally intended, maybe then it wouldn't feel so fucking rushed.

The rest of the season was good, albeit the JackxAshi felt a bit forced. What makes the season seem to take a dip in quality is because the first three episodes were so damn good in every way that everything after just couldn't live up to them.

I think it's pretty clear that some years have passed and that's also why Ashi sounds so surprised at the end, as if she suddenly realized what was supposed to happen to her. The effects of Aku's death had "reached" the future and the ripples "came back" right during the marriage.

So unless Jack managed to keep it in his pants all that time for the sake of traditions and politeness, he at least scored some before losing the love of his life
