I think Visage is harder to play than Invoker. Invoker has a learning curve but once you have decent muscle memory for whatever Ques/Wex/Exort combo you need to invoke the spell you want he's really not hard to play.

Visage requires pretty decent micro and really good treamfight awareness and map awareness at all times, and if you fuck up and get your familiars killed then you not only give a bunch of free gold to the enemy, but you also are of limited usefulness in any fights until you can summon new familiars. If Visage makes a mistake, it is easy to punish and the punishment really hurts, much moreso than Invoker (or just about any other hero, really).

The basic "default" ward locations are literally marked on the map. Look for little eyeball symbols on the cliffs near river runes and ancient creep camps. These locations certainly aren't always what you want, and they're usually the first place the enemy team is going to look for dewarding, but they're still decent locations that give a lot of good vision over major traffic points or areas of interest. They should be servicable warding locations for someone just learning the game.

The basic rule of thumb with wards is you want to place them either

I think it's the high that comes when winning a competition that can be very challenging. I've only played Dota at a decent upper level and not any of the other games in the genre but when a game has this much depth it gives the players almost unlimited ways to try to outplay and win over the opponent. This leads to very different scenarios in every single game even if it's the same map. Add the way Icefrog has been taking care of the game for so long making changes that renew the experience and kind of puts everyone at the start on the race to try to exploit the most out of the resources given by the game in order to beat the opponent. All of this makes this kind of competitive games addictive.

Bkb takes a while to farm for, so if you're playing support or some other disabler/magic user you are stronger during the beginning and mid phases because most likely no one rushes bkb.

That being said, even if an enemy hero acquires a bkb, the bkb duration decreases after every use, and the cooldown on it is relatively long. In other words, during a team fight you can bait out the enemy with your weaker abilities, get him to pop his bkb, and just wait until the effect is over to use your stronger abilities.
