Kinda. I can't tell the difference past 120hz, and even then I can only tell the difference when I go back to 60 or 30. From 120 to 30 is jarring.
My monitor peaks at 144 and it's hard to get any decent game that high with Ultra 2560x1440 anyway.

I recently bought a 240hz monitor, having played on a 144hz and prior to that 120hz for many years.

The jump from 144 to 240 isn't that noticable. It's not like 60 to 120. It's more of a subtle difference that you only really feel when constantly aiming/turning around. It's great if you want to really become one with your performance when things get really frantic, the game responds and gives you the visual feedback you need. Outside of these moments though, 240 isn't an upgrade.

Screentearing isn't too much of a problem above 60 FPS; I run CSGO between 90-120 (that engine is infamous for tearing) and tearing isn't really bad whereas when I was on a 60hz it drove me insane.

You can still cap a 144hz monitor at 72 FPS/run it half the refresh rate and it won't tear while 72 FPS in itself looks a lot better than 60.

The difference between 60hz and 144hz is immense.
After at least 160hz, there are very heavy diminishing returns.

I have a 27' 1440p 144Hz monitor.
If I had to choose I'd take higher resolution over high frame rate. The jump between 144 and 60 fps is not always noticeable, and you won't be able to play most of new AAA games at 144fps anyway, unless you have a beastly PC.
The 1080p resolution on monitor above 25' already starts looking jagged, so 1440p adds some sharpness and I like that more that slightly higher frame rate
