It has great stealth mechanics though. And a lot you can do in-game that gives you several ways to infiltrate and exfiltrate places, a wide variety of lethal and non-lethal tools and weapons to play with, and clear bonuses for pulling off missions as quickly and as quietly as possible. I really wish Kojima had made a VR Missions based on MGSV, even include missions from that game like the detective missions and everything, but with V's mechanics. That would've been amazing.

playing online is a blast
the problem is, they did a free weekend, and everybody was trying to rush the levels... that works for the 2-3 first ones... but once security has guns, you are done
it gets deep as fuck

a Hitman game, which one
Styx: Master of Shadows
a Thief game, which one

If there's something else, I can consider it but those are the ones I have currently available. Also have batman games but don't feel like playing them.

I'd say Wrath of Heaven is a good place to start
that's what I started with, Fatal Shadows is also great, no idea which one of those proceeds the other chronologically
the PSX ones controls are a fucking nightmare, haven't got anywhere with those, can't really give an opinion
and the PSP one, is just an add on more or less, kind of like what the Metal Gear PSP games are to that series
Wrath of Heaven is an absolute masterpiece from start to finish
you'd be doing yourself a favor by looking into it

Batman's a bit of a weak sneaking game. It's not as advanced as you'd think.

But for first timers, I agree with Mark of the Ninja. Fun game, but not a very hard stealth game to start out with.

Out of the games you have available though, Styx is a much easier stealth game to get into, but I find to be rather mediocre. The rest are good games, and I would recommend either Thief 1 or Hitman: Blood Money to get into first off. Gotta adjust the controls for Thief 1 and possibly download additional files for it to work on a current computer, but it's a good first time stealth game.

Exactly this is the reason it got some low scores. Casual reviewers expected a normal horror game but got an horror-stealth hybrid. They didnt get the game and didnt play it as a stealth game.

I'll start with the Thief games, then, and look to get Mark of the Ninja when it's on sale.

I forgot to mention that I have played Codename 47 previously and liked it (only small gripe being lack of UI scaling with higher resolutions), so I think I'll be best off playing them in chronological order.
I might leave AI and Styx for when I'd feel like playing a more 'modern' game for a change.

It's great, but know that it's a rogue-like. You can fuck up after 20 minutes or after 1½ hours and simply need to give up. It's really unforgiving.
But that's part of the charm. There's a lot of nifty shit to do once you get how the gameplay works.
