Its a lot of fun actually. Its not on par with Magic or something obviously. But as far as mini games go, its definitely one of the best mini games ever made.

All I can say is that Gwent is by far the easiest card game to pick up, despite being the most complex and deep.

There will be plenty of singleplayer content in the open beta beyond just facing a standard AI match like in Hearthstone.

Try those out first before thinking about PvP.

Witcher 1 is God tier after the first act though. This is coming from someone who dropped it two times over a few years before I got to the main city because of how boring it was. They don't have a bigger budget or anything of the sort, they simply make better decisions regarding their games since they take user feedback into consideration, as evident by the Enhanced Editions and the patches for W3. I think the anon's point is more that it's easy to break Gwent since the AI doesn't play too well to counter the easy cheese tactic of spies spying on spies so you have a huge hand that can tank through anything the AI throws your way. The side quest Gwent matches do put up a challenge though, which is nice. I also like the Skellige faction, Toussaint as a whole was Gwent heaven.

I think the standalone Gwent game has a lot more depth to it with newer cards, abilities, heroes, leaders etc. Gwent in W3, as heavily featured as it was, was still essentially a side minigame to take part in. Maybe that's why it deteriorates quickly into being a numbers game. The poor fucking AI doesn't help the situation either. But in the end, Gwent entirely depends on the numbers in determining the winner, so abilities that affect your or the enemy's numbers are pretty much what gives it what little depth it has. It's the point of the game, in other words. Take that as you will.

Card games usually have bigger decks because that means that you have to strategize based on the cards you're currently getting.
In Gwent you get your whole deck in your hand pretty soon, which makes all strategy meaningless, you just build your deck to have a shitton of points and prepare for the -very limited- set of magic effects that can fuck you up (scorches and field cards) and just throw stuff around.

You can't even pass a turn without passing the whole round, because that would be something different than just throwing around cards to outdo each other.

Sidestep is just a better dodge -doesn't consume stamina and has even more i-frames-, and I don't know why you would even mention parry when is as mindless as it gets.
Riposte is also incredibly easy to use, since all attacks are excessively telegraphed.

FUCK THAT GUY SO MUCH. payed over 30k crowns just to have my armor enchanted to be light armor. it's a good enchantment but that's extremely expensive. bring your own equipment from ofeir or at least offer more good stuff besides that particular enchantment

as first i had a grandmaster feline armor because that suits my play the best

then ursine because i though i could do with it if i enchant it but i didn't like it's aesthetic

now i have an enchanted griffin armor dyed grey and it's 10/10 GOAT armor in all vidya. sexy as fuck!
