Because in the long run, telling less harms the game's image and future less. Anything they promise now but it does not make into the final game: people screaming "downgrade!" and "gutted game"! Anything that looks imperfect, suggest performance issues etc... "Shit game, shit technical state!" Anything that shows off new mechanics, outside of spoiling things, is "they ruined it!". Everything that shows off familiar mechanics: "Fucking rehash!"
The audience is growing increasingly obsessive about all possible native intepretations of available data. It's actually just better to keep silent until the very final pre-release stage. Plus just the new info dumps themselves usually cost time and money: and they don't actually seem to positively affect sales for companies such as Croteam.
