Because low game resolution places the majority of the load on the CPU, and high game resolution places the majority of the load on the GPU.

Which is why AMD forced launch reviewers to do 4K resolution Ryzen reviews, because in 4K tests any two CPUs will generally look identical. It hid Ryzen's inferiority.

Basically you can't see the difference except under very specific unrealistic situations like running at a very low resolution with no other applications running that heavily favor single thread performance in D3D11 overhead above all else.

In real world situations where you're gaming at 1440p or 2160p (the market for $200+ CPUs) and you have a bunch of stuff running in the background (voice chat, video recording, etc) the overclockable mid-range Ryzen chips are going to do about as well as the top end from anybody. Especially if we're talking about modern games using Vulkan.

Yeah, right, that's why it gets smoked by the very 970 when you overclock both because the 970 actually reaches stock 980 levels of performance OCed whereas the 390 has FUCKALL oc headroom, amirite? Gotta also love how AMD locks any of the threads denouncing poor driver support on it on their forums.

>when it hits 3.5GB VRAM usage

Literally never happens at 1080p. Now go on and post some pics of games CACHING 1238044561290853461gbs of textures in vram but actively using only a tiny fraction of it. It's not like you would know the difference anyway.

If you want to have a good conversation about AMD drivers you really have to go to a Linux board.

The Linux crowd have been able to do more than just bitch about AMD's drivers though, they've actually done something about it. The open source Mesa drivers are so good they're faster than AMD's professionally developed stuff. To the point that AMD and strangely Valve have started hiring the open source devs to work on the open drivers full time.
>>
>>377594148
>shitty gpu drivers (though they got their shit together recently).

Their drivers have been fine since 2009 for most AMD users. And all I've heard lately is Nvidia users have problems with drivers, very little problems from AMD users.

Sure but its odd to see them hire senior driver devs (who aren't cheap) to work full time on something that is Free Software, that only works on Linux, and only on specific hardware as well.
Speculation is that they're doing it for their next gen Steam Machines which will have a more uniform hardware configuration.

>if microsoft go full retard and try to stop all non-windows store purchases
No longer a matter of 'if', 10 S is confirmed to only run UWP software from the Windows Store and is basically guaranteed to become the primary new version of Windows over the next few years.
I fully anticipate in a couple of years to see astroturf threads where there's bitching about how Valve forces people to spend more money just to play games when you can just play Xbox games from their store.
>>
I've got an A10-7850K and an RX 470 4GB. I had a normal AMD CPU before this. The processors were expensive, around $150-200 each and holy fuck AMD processors are fucking shit. Stuttering, graphics glitches, having to fuck around with my drivers and BIOS just to go from "Wow AMD sucks" to "Wow, AMD sucks slightly less"

Don't fall for the AMD meme
>>
>>377593548
CPUs are stagnant. You get a slightly worse i7 for $150 less if you buy the 1500X. Also the mobo costs less, and you have a better upgrade path on AM4 (vs basically none on the 1151 unless you get the G4560)

RX 580 is beating the 6GB 1060 in new games. Basically AMD is the generic naproxen, while Intel or Nvidia is Aleve.

I'd rather go on what they do, than what they might do if things were differently. AMD supports the indstry with open source software, open standards like Freesync, and created Mantle, then gave it away to Kronos so they could make Vulkan. AMD are currently doing a lot of good for everyone.

Ryzen 5 matches i5 and surpasses in some games, Ryzen uses way less lower than i5/i7s, we don't know how Ryzen 2 and 3 will be, so getting a AM4 chipset now might lead you to a nice upgrade path

Intel is stagnated beyond help while AMD is bringing out the goods for once in the CPU arena

Any decent motherboard should work fine, even b350 boards should be ok. R5s don't pull much power at all so you don't some crazy vrm config for it.
>>
>>377611187
>2GB VRAM
Because you cheaped out and bought the worst card in the series. Textures in modern AAA titles can take up as much as 6GB of VRAM these days. You'll have to tone those down to low to make modern games playable.

>Ryzen

How much of a issue is them not being made for gaming or w/e the bullshit being spread was?

My Phenom IIx4 945 has lasted me forever, and I've never repasted. If that's not a sign of quality I don't know what is, so that considered I'd probably buy another AMD processor, but I wanna be sure.
>>
>>377612572
MSI B350M PRO-VDH AM4 is half the price than MSI X370 Gaming Pro AM4 Ryzen which is the only X370 I found on this site.
MSI B350M Bazooka AM4 Ryzen, Gigabyte GA-AB350M GAMING 3 AM4 Ryzen, Gigabyte GA-AB350 GAMING 3 AM4 Ryzen all are in between price wise.
Which one?

Good to see AMD is quick to fix these bugs, unlike nVidia.

Any B350 board that isnt MSI will do fine
>>

>How much of a issue is them not being made for gaming or w/e the bullshit being spread was?

It is 100% bullshit because there is no such thing as a gaming cpu. Nothing Intel, AMD or VIA make has anything special that seperates gaming out from other workloads.

I'll give you a fun fact: Ryzen has higher IPC than kabylake does because it can handle 4 complex ops a cycle - kabylake can only handle 1 comples and 3 simple.

tl;dr hit ryzen right and outside of AVX2 it will blow Intel's chips out of the water.

Sauce: Agner.

You're a retarded nigger.

That "21%" just means one or two cores at 100%. AMDs single threaded performance is shit.

I see, well thanks then. My rigs gettin pretty old so once I get a new job I'm pretty much gonna be forced to upgrade. I play a lotta older games like phantasy star online, hopefully I wont have issues with them.

Depends what you want, i'd go ryzen. To summarise the whole thread any all AMD sux threads:

Multi core performance - go with Ryzen
Single core performance - go with the 7600K
>>
>>377613081
The gigabyte gaming 3 will do fine
Best board in terms of hardware
The UEFI kind of sucks and likes to shit itself, but nothing a CMOS reset won't fix

Gigabyte GA-AB350M GAMING 3 AM4 Ryzen
Gigabyte GA-AB350 GAMING 3 AM4 Ryzen +$15
Gigabyte Aorus GA-AX370 GAMING K5 AM4 Ryzen +$90

All the Gigabyte are gaymen, the MSI are the only ones with Pro versions sadly

How long will my i5-2400 with RX480 last?
Ryzen looks interesting but I'd have to buy a new MOBO and RAM to use it. I would like to dump my money on another console if the performance gain is not that much.
>>
>>377612824
Ryzen has approximately 10% less IPC than recent intel processors and 10% less max frequency. Since games tend to prefer higher single threaded performance, this accounts for most of the difference seen between recent intel processors and Ryzen in games, although it does depend on the game and in most cases the GPU will be more important as long as you have at least a midrange processor.

Why the fuck is Vega taking so long REEEEEEEEEEEEE. Just bought a 1440p 144Hz IPS monitor on sale, the price was too good to pass up. Unfortunately my GTX 980 isn't quite up to playing everything at 1440p at very high or ultra, although playing older games at 1440p is very nice. Want to upgrade but waiting for Vega so I can compare the 1080 and whatever equivalent AMD card has but it's taking forever.

What's wrong with jews?

I know some people will say jews approve muslim immigration and destruction of the West and yadda but Robert Spencer, a jew who speaks against Islam and muslim immigration was just poisoned in Iceland for doing what he does. I mean it's clear not everyone is doing what this narrative tries to pass, jews are not a monolithic group who votes in block for Obama or so.

yeah i'm opening a /pol/ can of worms but what can you do
