I'm with you. The first 6 or so hours were magical, but once you play more, it gets pretty repetitive and shallow. I don't think it's bad, but 97/100 is pretty crazy.

Note that this is all from the POV of someone who's been playing through 1-4 for the first time over the last week. (I played MGS1 a month ago, but replayed it for the marathon, and still need to finish Acts 4 and 5 of MGS4)
MGS3 may be the least unique MGS sequel so far as I've played. I don't mean that it's bad at all, but it isn't as good imo as a sequel or even a game.

The menu bullshit is overly intrusive. They're not bad ideas, but the execution fucks the flow of gameplay significantly more than going into your item menu to get a ration.
The Cobra Unit guys were bland as shit. Volgin would've been nicer in smaller amounts though.
Everyone praises the story and the emotion between Snake and The Boss, and if that doesn't connect with you, then you're kinda fucked, and I didn't get anything from it.
The Eva escort segment. Everything about it. There's no fun that may be derived from it, like the MGS1 tower staircase.

But the camo, CQC, 3P Camera, The End fight, and general relevance to the MGS universe (Snake's right eye, Ocelot being an American spy, Granin) were all good.
Overall, I guess it just took the momentum out of the story of 1 and 2 to go back to a mostly irrelevant plot 40-45 previous.

I've been having way more fun in 2 and (so far) 4.

elder scrolls

really it's possibly my favorite series and there's no other fantasy RPG I like playing more (dark souls doesn't count) but god damn their engines are fucking broken and 50% or more of the content that each new game desperately needs is left on the cutting room floor in favor of what exactly I'm not sure
