10 years of content if you like grinding for every single weapon and armor piece for 3 different characters.

I have no idea how this game survived after being heavily shitted on at release.

They've plotted out the IP for 10 years. In reality though nothing other than the dissemination of the product has been planned, i.e. the DLC and cash shops. As evidenced by the lackluster story and the lack of real content unless you count the game and all the DLC as one product then it's barely enough content for one game.

Simple, one of the few titles you could get with a PS4 at the time, online mmo-like co-op on a console, and it's an fps first and foremost. It's essentially normie: the game.

Activision gave them a contract and budget for 10 years. Not for one game but for a whole franchise. That's why it was such a big deal they were making that kind of investment in a new IP.

That's the thing, I don't try and defend it, I know it's a shit game. But for $60 I got probably around 200 plus hours having fun and laughing with my friends.Definitely worth it and given the choice I'd absolutely buy it again.
That's the same reason I enjoyed runescape so much as a kid. A shitty grindfest with minor pieces of good content, but the community and friends I played with really made it fun. This was when I was in middle school however in like 2005 so don't think I'd still play that trash.

I bought at launch and have played off and on. I think combat is fantastic, easily the best feeling fps gunplay on consoles. The gameplay in general is exceptionally well polished to a degree most studios could only dream of. Bungie has always been great at this sort of thing.

The main problem is an absolute dearth of good content to match. The environmental design is stunning, their artists are some of the very best in the entire industry, their animators are great, and even the lore writing for the Grimoire is great stuff. But there was just such poor planning for content it was almost worthless. There is a ridiculous amount for praise Destiny for but somehow it always comes up short for me. The story in the vanilla release was literally a side quest left over from all the content they had to cut, hell most of the shit on the old. trailers never made it to release day. It's a shallow, pale imitation of what was intended and reeks of wasted potential. I got probably 400 hours out of it over the last 3 years though and I don't regret my purchase. The complete edition does have enough good content to easily justify a purchase, but holy fuck was the game a trainwreck for people who played since vanilla. I'm glad I kept up with it because it did get pretty good, but still never close to lived up to its full potential.

The reason I'm getting Destiny 2 is because from everything I've seen it at least marches the quality of the first game, as it is today. Better art and environments, reworked gameplay, and what seems to be an actual campaign comparable to their Halo days. I'd love to be able to play a Destiny game that fully lives up to its potential because that could be a legitimate masterpiece. As it stands, I'm cautiously optimistic though I know I'll get hundreds of hours out of it for co-op. I just probably won't buy any dlc until D3 is announced if D2 vanilla doesn't hold its own.
