only played ar no surge, it surprised me. The gameplay was easy but the music and parts of the story really surprised me. It's a cool setting and they have lots they could build on too.

Think this has some texthrus for the games that didn't make it here.

I played ps3 no surge without any previous entries and i think i liked it best that way. You get a fresh world / setting to figure out and the story lets you figure things out because it's told well. I don't how the other games play out but there's some great plot twists that i hope were even better as a new player.

The Dives are no replacement for what Ciel nosurge does, as you're still missing out on the entirety of Ion's journey and the reasons why she does the things she does in Arno, on why the characters act the way they do, on all the songs and music from that game, on the worldbuilding that was made for Ra Ciela and the inhabitants of Soreil, and also, for several of the most important reveals.

While I don't deny that, I'd say that Ciel isn't just a 30+ hour game: it was actually more of an experience that lasted a year at minimum that aside of checking out the story in the form of Ion's memories, it was also all about sharing time with Ion. Chatting with her, making items together, getting her to sing lullabies or tell bed-time stories... That is something that just no other game can ever replicate.

While there have no been no news about new EXA_PICO games, it's still been a relatively good year when it comes to translated stuff:

-The Ar tonelico 2 retranslation.
-The completion of the Ciel nosurge video translation project.
-The translations for the Luca, Cloche and Jakuri drama CDs, with the AT2 side Extra and the Saki and Finnel After Stories in the horizon.

I have a strong feeling it was some higher-up at KT who made their studios have open worlds. Sophie sold great and the second game should've been great but they blew it wasting all their money on a shitty open world and causing literally every other aspect of the game to suffer.

Toukiden 2 also had an open world but in this case, I feel like it was a good fit and actually did help the game. But for Atelier they really need to stay away from it. Gust is too small too handle it properly and it fucks up the Atelier formula. It's just not a good fit. Also they had way too many useless characters and spread their voice budget thin. Fucking Firis was voiced by a newbie seiyuu.
