Opinions on Banjo-Tooie
>>
utter shit

>>377533740
Ten
>>
I never finished it, I felt like Rare was trying too hard to make it expansive
>>
>>377533740
Felt like a downgrade in every way which was crazy because the first game wasn't even all that good
>>
Banjo-Tooie is better than Banjo-Kazooie. It's far more ambitious and advanced in just about every aspect. The people who scream backtracking are ADHD losers and probably played this game for the first time as a bored, impatient, mind-wandering adult on an emulator. Kazooie is fine, but it's quite simple in comparison. Kazooie does have an advantage because it contains one of the best levels in any game, Click Clock Woods.
>>
Pretty great, though I like the first better.
Second had some great tunes and great looking zones though.

Better than Kazooie (which is also still amazing), literally never understood anti-Tooie shitters.

Backtracking and the sheer size worked to make the isles o hags and its worlds feel better to explore than any other N64 era platformer can claim. I guess if you don't like exploration Tooie shifts the focus towards it a bit more but it was still clearly always there in Kazooie.

There are also some absolutely braindead collectibles in Kazooie by virtue of the fact that you needed to get them all the first time around.
>>
love the game, but I skip all of kazooie's dialogue

Men of taste.

basically the half way point between a tight Bk experience and DK64 cancer

they all suck compared to mario 64 tho
>>
>>377533740
it's fucking great. Loved the expansive levels, really made you think how to get those jiggies.

Imho significantly better then kazooie. Though given that greatness was already done with the former.

The interconnected worlds, expanded moves, minigames, etc. Everything was great in tooie.

The revisiting of levels was great with the new moves you learned later on. Still. Only fun water level ever. Jolly Rogers lagoon.

Mario 64, like Super Mario Bros, is important as a groundwork that guided the rest of the industry's game design during infancy stages of 3D/Home console gaming.

But being the first doesn't mean being the best at all. They were the first to show everyone how it was done but Super Mario 64 has been surpassed by literally every single good and above 3D platformer that has come out since 64 has (Even several times within its own series). Just like a good 2D platformer made with the lessons learned from SMB1 will blow Super Mario Bros 1 out of the water.

Mario 64 is a proof of concept compared to the later N64 era 3D platformers.
>>
>>377533740
It's one of the worst sequels I know that weren't made by a different studio.
>>
>>377535859
mario 64 wasnt the first 3d platformer you dope.
and newer =/= better.
nice logic you retarded faggot

A more ambitious, but also more flawed game than Kazooie. BK is a much more consistent experience, whereas BT had higher highs and lower lows.

In general, I prefer it. As BK progresses, the Jiggys require more complicated tasks to earn them; in some early levels, there are Jiggy's that aren't even harder to collect than certain notes or lives, but by Click Clock Woods it really feels like you need to earn every Jiggy, and I feel like BT never dips below that level.
>>
>>377535965
It was the first competent one and basically made the entire industry collectively go "Ohhhh I get it now" on 3D development when they played it. 3D was a disaster like VR is now before Mario 64.

A newer game isn't always better. That's why I specifically said GOOD new games. As long as competent dev team is taking lessons learned from previous platformer titles (A whole 2 decades of extra time to perfect the genre past Mario 64) and use those lessons to make a fun game there is absolutely no reason that a good or better end product wouldn't be leagues above Mario 64 in terms of quality.

If a developer makes a 3d platformer that is considered good by today's standards it is better than Mario 64. No exceptions.

Liking Mario 64 is like being asked for your favorite book and saying "I really like paper".
>>
I think it's a worthy advancement from Kazooie. Not necessarily better, but it definitely does its job at being a good sequel.

I can understand why the backtracking is considered annoying by some, but it's still a great game in my eyes.

Agreed.

>About 3 times larger than any world in B&K with exception of the season world.
>Worlds with better themes: carnival, dinosaur land, lagoon, etc. B&K worlds are too similar to each other.
>FPS mode, different egg ammos, and ability to separate.
>Jiggys are more satisfying. Third of the jiggys from B&K are in arms reach. B&T makes you work for your jiggys.
>Varied mini-games. B&K only had like 3 mini-games, each one feels very similar. B&T has a mini-game on each level and each are unique.
>More interesting and expansive hub-world.
>Backtracking that makes sense. Worlds are connected through secret areas and trains.
>Kazooie rarely talked in B&K. She is given much more dialog in B&T.
>Each level has a boss instead of every other level. The bosses are actually challenging and fun.
>Each level has a shaman instead of every other level.
>The transformations in B&K with exception of the bee plays extremely similarly. B&T transformations are all unique.
>More interesting character. Drill sergeant guy,
>More uses of Kazooie flying ability.
>Kickass multiplayer mode.
>Story is more charming and more expansive.

liking BK better than Mario 64 deserves no civility.

As long as you can admit that game quality has no bearing on your personal tastes in this case you're fine.
>>
>>377533740
very good game, replayed it earlier this year

yooka-laylee was so fucking dissapointing
>>
>>377536642
How were the themes of BK close to each other?
Also I liked Tooie, but having transformations in every world isn't necessarily a boon, if they're shit like the sub, detonator, and stonie. Not like Kazooie's were great except the croc. though

DK64 is my fav rare collectathon and I like it more than Tooie.
Still like the 3 games, all of them have their own pros and cons.
>>
>>377537060
Clankers and Rusty Bucket overlap significantly.

Ice Click Clock and Freezeezy Peak overlap

Mumbo's and Spring and Summer click clock are both grass worlds.

Having a swamp world and forest world in one game is also a little bit much.

Tooie has none of this overlap, all of the worlds are staunchly different.
>>
>>377533740
It's good, I don't like it as much as the first game but it's still fun.
>>377536894
When I was a kid my favourite out of the 3 was DK64, then I played it again 5 or so years ago and wanted to fucking kill myself.
I didn't know a game could have too much content, but fuck my ass there was too much shit to collect in DK64 and most of the mini games were abysmal.

The amount of patrician taste in this thread pleases me greatly. You guys are amazing.
>>
Banjo-Kazooie is perfect. Where as Tooie just feels like a hassle. You have these gigantic worlds but most of the jiggies are just in side rooms. Usually when you find the next place or NPC to get a Jiggy, it becomes a matter of do I need a movie from a future level or do I activate this Jiggy from somewhere else in the world. Too many of them waste your time trying to find a solution when in fact you need to backtrack.
>>
>>377533740
Its a good adventure game across expansive connected worlds with silly npcs.

Bad collectathon, meh platformer.

Good adventure game

Notes in bunches of 5 was the only thing Tooie did worse than Kazooie, should have been how it's in 360 Kazooie, notes are saved and not lost when you die.
Also when you hold A to fast forward text, characters have a higher pitch, was a nice touch, doesn't happen in Tooie.
>>
>>377534040
Could not have said it any better. Don't agree on Click Clock Woods though.
>>
>>377533740
When i was a kid I always loved how it expanded upon the first world and made it feel more grand and connected.
>>
Better than Yooka-Laylee at least.

>>

Bloated as fuck but I still loved it.

Yooka-Laylee is even more bloated with huge empty clusterfuck worlds and worse game design.
>>
>>377544679
And lack of enemies
Minions in different outfits don't count

Jolly Roger's Lagoon had more variety in enemies than all of Yook-Laylee

>>
>>377544679
The world design in YL is downright terrible.

There's no "tightness" to any of the five levels, they're all just these big open spaces with obstacles throughout. Galleon Galaxy in particular is a fucking mess.
