Devil may cry 4 will never be better than 1 or 3 simply because its half a game.

This, pretty much.

Whenever I get the urge to play DMC 4, I end up just playing Bloody Palace for a while because the main game sucks ass and you can't even play as Dante the whole way through. If I want to fight bosses, I use a trainer. Then I get tired after 1 hour at most.

When I play DMC 1 I actually feel like playing the game from the start and the whole thing is a joy. I enjoy myself even just exploring the castle. Though I guess just the fact that I still come back to these games after all of these years is a testament to how good they are. Fuck, I even play 2 every now then; still have to do that Trish playthrough.
