Splatoon takes places thousands of years after mankind was destroyed by global warming and worldwide floods and sea creatures such as Squids and Octopi among many other have now evolved to such an extend that they walk on land

Judd, the Cat, is a cat from before the human apocalypse who was put into cryo-stasis.

Humanity went extinct from global warming 15000 years before The only survivor was Judd the cat who got put into cryo sleep by his creator.

Eventually sea life evolved to live on land that was now unoccupied. Octarians and squids were the two largest races and were friends until global warming started to kick back in. The amount of land that was left couldn't support both races so they had a war. Octarians were winning because they got up early in the day but squids finally won the war because they have more limbs and banished the octarians underground.

After years undergrounds the octarians lost their power source they needed to survive and their leader Octavio came up to steal the zapfish from the squids so they don't all die because the squids were just using it to host dance parties. Cuttlefish a war veteran and old friend first recruited his grand daughters Callie and Marie to stop Octavio but that wasn't enough so he recruited a third inkling.

The Inkling defeated Octavio and they trapped him in a tiny snowglobe and they go back to having dance parties while the Octarians starve to death underground again. At some later point Octavio breaks free from his snowglobe Callie disappears and the zapfish is stolen again which is splatoon 2.

It's set in a world where the is the sea and the land, humans lived in the land and the fish in the sea.

Due to some unforeseen events the humans got flooded and all of humanity died out leaving only aquatic life. Judd got lucky as his owner put him into deep sleep before the flood.

This life was creatures like the Inklings who learnt to become land walking creatures who where more humanoid now but could become squids too. They often only get this characteristic sometime into their early teens.

They also learnt Tech, guns and firearms and fashion from the humans which they put into their new culture on land; one such thing was the splatwars which they did for fun or to choose what to do.

There was also other life like the Jellyfish but there was the Octolings which clashed with the Inklings after disagreements where before they lived peacefully, they lost the war due to someone pulling the plug on their secret weapon and were banished to live underground.

In the modern day Cap Cuttlefish thinks they are still active and sends a lone Inkling to take them out, Callie and Marie are also helping and are major celebrates up above.

In the 2nd Callie has gone missing.
