Vice City improved upon III. San Andreas was a step backwards in pretty much every way except map size.

for me it's VC > III > SA > 4
haven't played 5

I realize I'm in the minority thinking San Andreas was bad but I just wasn't feeling it. I tried to play it a few times and the farther I got each time, the more I found to dislike about it.

I just never liked the way SA looked, even when it came out.
It had nothing to do with location, it just lacked a unique aesthetic, which I think was kind of necessary with graphics being where they were at.

What could they have done for San Andreas: Stories, assuming it was ever made? Seeing a 'rise to power' story for Grove Street, in the 5 years where CJ's in Liberty City, would be cool. Either that or you play as a Ballas member, or mobster in Las Venturas.

SA is manifestly the best. No discussion. VC is great, of course, but anyone who thinks it's better than SA is just a contrarian who doesn't know how to enjoy games.

I loved SA. VC was cool too, played it before SA but it's just too small and limited comparatively. Tried playing 3 after those, gave up on the second island, partially because it was bland, partially because it was actually harder - the driving parts, not the shooting ones. Played the first one as a kid, never gotten far. My uncle shown me there was a tank under the bridge in one of the cities, that was really cool.

Didn't play IV or V yet.

Where do you guys would want a GTA story to take place next? I'd love one in Abu Dhabi or somewhere in that area.

In regards to the 3D era of GTA games, San Andreas is clearly the winner, Vice City is a lot of fun, but SA was just a straight upgrade of almost everything except properties. It can almost be hard at times to play VC right after playing SA.

For the HD era I definitely prefer V, especially because IV runs like dogshit even on modern hardware.

III is the most focused and tightly-compacted experience of the whole series, regarding both gameplay and story. It has the best atmosphere and immersion, in my opinion. The characters are varied and believable but still zany as is expected from GTA. I still enjoyed VC, etc but III feels like the game they put the most love and attention into.

Exactly, there's tons of locations they could choose from, even though Mafia III already did it, I'd still love to see a GTA set in New Orleans and the surrounding areas.

Anyone here tried to play GTA IV or it's episodes on PC recently? I was trying to Lost and the Damned a shot, but I was running into terrible performance issues, I'm running a 970 and an i5, I know it's a bad port, but I thought it would run a little better on modern hardware.
