It's total trash compared to the bioshock, dishonored and deus-ex series. I can't imagine how anyone could think that this game is acceptable compared to what came before, particularly given that Arkane used to know what the fuck they were doing with games like Arx Fatalis and Dishonored.

I really like it.
Its the survivor horror game I needed after being disappointed with RE7
>>
>>377520421
Imo they must have ran out of time and just quickly filled in the final couple of quests.

That said i had around 26 EMP grenades and disruptor batteries saved up since theirs barely any electronic enemies until the end of the game so it wasn't so bad.

The pacing is great as well as the atmosphere until you get to Dahl and that it just feels like reading a book where as the story starts to hit it's stride and it ends with and then he defeated the bad guy and everything was alright again the end.

As a side note they should make your minimum combat abilities more effective and the later game abilities slightly weaker in order to not feel ridiculously gimped early on and ridiculously overpowered later.

It's a nice feeling mowing down phantoms and nightmares that would have wrecked your shit some hours ago but completely trivialises the difficulty and tense atmosphere after the halfway mark. The Nightmare phantom could have been much better executed with a smaller more hunter-esque creature that can stalk through the corridors and fuck your shit up similar to the Alien in isolation.

Scenes like this one and others were really fucking with me.
I'd been occasionally thinking up this sequel to System Shock to pass time, and what parts/set-pieces it would have and Prey ticked of a ridiculously high number of them. Including the 'Fight off enemies in a disco/club while a catchy techno soundtrack plays'.
>>
Does taking Typhon mods affect the story/ending of the game in any way, or does it just make turrets hostile?
>>
I wish the station had been a lot longer, with the G.U.T.S. being bigger and more elaborate. You only end up going through there once or twice before unlocking the upper airlocks, so there's no reason to go back.
>>
>>377523252
Changes some dialogue afaik, but it shouldn't make you get a bad ending.
>>
>>377523283
I feel like the issue with G.U.T.S and the spacewalk segments is that you can just boost your way past any enemies and there's no real sense of conflict. It is hella fun to navigate in zero G though, I won't deny that

seriously every single enemy besides operators and technopaths in the game can be super trivialized by

as for technopath just psychoshock to remove his abilities then spam disruptor

psychoshock is just ridiculous honestly because nullwaves are so rare but psychoshock is only 25 psi AND does a good amount of damage.

I'm finding the game interesting, certain mechanics are concepts pretty cool.

I like the Mimic enemy type, but every other enemy is pretty lame, they are trying to be spooky scary but they aren't actually that interesting. All the creepiness is purely the disjointed music.

Prey is a decent game, but it really just makes me wish for another Dead Space.

I'm afraid you don't understand what immersion is if you think that constant hint prompt is a positive thing.

I really liked it, it's fan-fucking-tastic. But something horribly wrong with ending. I mean it started going downhill really fast since Dahl appeared. So all this was a simulation inside another simulation and Morgan never existed to begin with and he was modeled after young Alex so they look alike to make it more believable they are family to make player base his choices on that fact? God damn it Avellone.
>>
>>377533323
no, morgan was real and the sim is based on his memories
>>
>>377533323
Wait, that's what's going on? That sucks.
>>
>>377533323

I'm not sure where you got most of that.

Morgan was real. The game was a simulation of a recreation of his memories. I believe it was an attempt to "inject" empathy into a typhon so they could serve as an ambassador/diplomat between humans and typhons 'cause the Earth is fucked by typhons
>>
>>377532929
No. Otherwise he'd be there in the ending.

I'm more concerned about why you sometimes get glimpse of the real world with Morgan's voice saying things like "You're not who they say you are" or "Don't let them do this to you". Like is this Morgan's residual consciousness advising the Typhon? Why would it do that?

Yeah, I also was curious about that too. Also, I only heard it once, but January said "You've been trapped in a simulation for 2 weeks. Normally it takes a few hours." as an unprompted response in Morgan's office. I assumed it had to do with the original one from the beginning of the game, but after I beat the game, it sounds more like he's talking about the one you are currently in.

If so, why would January just flat out say that to you?

>>377533853

If you liked Dishonored 1, you'll probably like 2. Better gameplay, little worse story, not as good performance-wise. PC port was bad a launch, think it's mostly fine now.
>>
Alright, for those who played the game without mods or stealthily did you guys enjoy it? Because my experience more or less boiled down to:
>Pick nightmare difficulty
>Only invest in human mods
>Game still becomes a colossal cakewalk by the midgame
>see so many people talk about how they hated technopaths, yet i felt they weren't that tough - lob emp and nullwave, chase with shotgun till dead
>Finally invest in combat focus after exhausting other mod paths and game becomes even easier
>The Nightmares are perhaps even less difficult then the technopath, only slightest bit if trouble came from the military operators.
I enjoyed alot of the other aspects of the game but the difficulty seriously had me wanting for more.

It's holding steady at an 8/10 for me after 15 hours on Hard. What I don't like:
>platforming is oddly inconsistent. I sometimes cling to the gloo or a beam, I sometimes fall like a retard
>Zero-G combat. Very, very terrible.
>Combat in general feels lacking. Shotgun seems to be king.
>>
>That ending

So it was all a simulation? And the final choice comes down to either killing earth or to continue the works of Talos1? To be honest that reveal is lame.
>>
this game has a lot of fucking problems honestly

the story is completely lackluster; after the kind of good opening sequence it immediately lays everything on the line and it's very basic
garbage voice acting
weak as fuck guns. I even took the extra damage skill and the wrench still does way more damage than the shotgun
terrible enemy design. dude sees you from 50 meters and teleports to your butthole instantly for half your health. also the variety is terrible, I'm like 5 hours in and I think I've seen 3 enemies plus that weaver that you didn't even fight
>>
I just fucking hated the music and sound design
Synthwave can be good. But only in small doses. This was nothing but scare chords and generic synthstep garbage. Very distracting I had to turn it off and play the game without music.
>>
the game's combat and weapon upgrade system is fucking terrible

Pros:
>Very nice aesthetic
>Great performance on 1.01 and 1.03
>Amazing level design offering lots of experimentation
>Creepy atmosphere without relying too often on cheap jumpscares
>A vast selection of interesting abilites to unlock
>Doesn't hold your hand
>Good selection of different enemies
>Good weapon variation
>Good delivery of story bits

Cons:
>Audio mix is terrible
>The soundtrack leaves a lot to be desired
>Game becomes a cakewalk midway through the game, loses a lot of tension
>Certain mechanics can make you too powerful
>Most Psi powers are trash (Morph & Psychoshock are bae tho)
>Going for 100% mission completion can feel like a chore (atleast to me at the very end of the game)
>"Hidden" Ending is lame
>1.02 patch introducing stutter (fixed with 1.03)

Not flawless but damn was it fun.

Prey has same audience problems as books I believe:

some people will be all about dragons and anime action, others will read "boring" books and appreciate nuance and wont need something exaggerated and in your face to happen to activate their neurons.
>>
>>377538351
How are you going to argue Prey activates your neurons when the complaint is that it's too easy, aka "it doesn't stimulate my thought center?"
>>
>Oxygen tanks all over the place
>can't use them
Gee I wonder why
>>
>>377535730
It could've been a really cool reveal, but there's not enough "whoa that's cool buildup" stuff on a repeat playthrough. There's a few hints, but nothing that's like "SUDDENLY THIS MEANS EVERYTHING TO ME HOLY SHIT"

It's also very rushed. If you're going to be like "whole thing was a simulation," tell the player what the fuck is going on. Tell them what they've gotten into, what it all meant. "You're a typhon experiment built from morgan and most of humanity is dead" is all you get, and that's not satisfying especially when they play some weird music that doesn't entirely fit and them abruptly cut back to the fucking menu before it can even reach a climax.
>>
>>377539089
This. In all honesty, they should have scrapped it. All endings (Nullwave, Destroying or Escaping) are fine on their own.
>>
>beat game by blowing up talos 1
>saved a lot of people and they gave me chance to work with them
>decide to do it
Should I see what happens if I choose other option? Should I go back and use the nullwave or escape with the other crew? Will it change the ending in any significant way?
>>
>>377539745
It'd be fine if it was an atlas-style twist where you still fucking get gameplay and explanation out of it, but instead it's just "lol bye"

Imagine if in Bioshock after the would you kindly scene you woke up in tenenbaum's office and it sent you back to the menu.
>>
>>377538656
Devs said in some Q&A that playtesters cried too much, also managing oxygen made exploring a chore.
>>
Halfway through the game I learned about the materials duplication glitch. Playing the game without having to constantly worry about the inventory and running back to unload junk into the recycler really shows how lackluster the basic gameplay is in the game.

- The gloo cannon is worthless except for some platforming and putting out fires.
- Combat focus plus shotgun or even the wrench wrecks the phantoms. It turns into a very simplistic version of F.E.A.R.
- Other than the stun gun, most weapon upgrades besides damage are pointless.
- The operators go down in a couple of stun gun shots. You can also just shoot them once and hack them while they are stunned, which makes the later parts a cakewalk.
- You can kill any amount of cystoids by simply throwing a box towards them or with one shot of the boltcaster (that you can then recover).
- The nightmare usually won't notice you, it's not scary in the least. If it does you can just travel to a different map, hide in the elevator or kill it with half a dozen shotgun shots. Or simply send it away if you do the satellite mission.
- Telepaths and weavers are trivial to deal with if you simply reserve your Q-Beam ammo for them. They are dead before they can do shit to you. At most they'll get to throw a couple of slow moving projectiles.
- The game expects you to use typhon skills, so if you only use combat focus you have way more psi replenishing items that you know what to do with (syringes, eel food, chips and even drinking water later on).
- Mimics showing on the visor defeats their whole purpose. Even when great mimics appear, you are so much stronger than them that it doesn't even matter. They are only a threat in the rare room with 5+ of them, but then it's as simple as lobbying a recycling grenade.

Once you reach a certain level of upgrades and learn how to deal with the few enemies in the game that's it. All you have to do is go through the motions running towards the mission markers until the game ends.
>>
>>377534890
Agreed. I did fine even without typhoon mods, I just Q-beamed everything to death. The game has way too many resources available, you can almost max every human neuromod by the mid-way point and then they give you the fabricator recipe for it. Harder to get ammo or food would have gone a long way to improve the survival aspect
>>
>>377540869
Gloo cannon makes enemies take x3 damage or something when hit and with charged melee hits to the head enemies will paralyze for bit allowing you to charge another, it's really good if you use it right but I guess the shotgun is more satisfying overall.

On Nightmare it's really important to use it to conserve ammo for later on.
>>
>>377540963
I had 50+ of every resource except minerals after the first few areas, it's kinda lame that there's basically only one resource because you're swimming in the rest.
>>
I found a fuck ton of Q beam ammo but never the actual gun.
>>
>>377542616
I somehow missed the beams lab and got locked out of it completely later one when Hardware loses power and the doors close (bug?) and only found one way later when I helped those fags set up their turrets.
>>
>>377542431
>>377540963
How the fuck do you people get so many resources? Between Neuromods and Shotguns Shells I have at no point felt like I have been post-scarcity.

>>377540869
It's easier to GLOO the Operators than it is to Stun Gun.
>>
>>377543069

Pretty much an instant drop on the shitty battle music alone. Don't care that it's "fixed" either in the main game, the demo convinced me more than any reviewer could not to buy this game.
>>
>>377543069
I played on Nightmare, the Gloo Cannon makes every enemy a cake walk and you easily fabricate lots of ammo for it. I was able to max out the human trees by just finding neuromods, I never made any

I bought this game cause I thought it would have the same story structure of the Bioshock games, and I was completely disappointing.

All the characters are one-dimensional beside Alex, audio-logs and emails take up 90% of the story, and they are not even that good or well written, it's hard to even believe these guys are scientists, and the twist was so stupid. Wished I didn't pay full price for it.
>>
>>377543564
>>377543282
Wow. I've barely filled up most of my human trees and I've devoted 90% of my resources to Neuromods.

>Gloo Cannon makes every enemy a cake walk
But it doesn't even do anything to the bigger guys.
>>
>>377543674
Game draaaaaagged for so long I was getting burned holy shit.
>>
someone give me the redpill about the ending.
The kill them all ending makes no sense and appears to be simply in the game for the players who just want to watch the world burn.
>>
>>377543923
The neuromods are hidden but you can find some in almost every room you walk in, in some crevice or near a body. It helps to explore the ceilings as well. for the large enemies, I always Q-beamed them as I got ridiculous amounts of the ammo from the robots and found the ammo fabrication recipe early on. I dumped all my weapon upgrades into damage first, so It made mince meat out of the paths and weavers through most of the game. It's more useful to recycle ammo for others gun than try to carry everything, so I never had pistols, shotguns, or stun guns
>>
>>377520648
It's style isn't as good as Bioshock's, but the enemies not constantly respawning puts it at least level with 2 in my eyes.

It's possible to play in a boring way, if you make it boring.
Gloo-ing enemies isn't even an option after the beginning of the game. Some enemies are flat out immune, while others burst free and kill you quickly.
>>
>>377546226
Can't do it anymore. They fixed that already and even put in an in-universe note about people abusing a glitch with the fabricators and getting chewed out by the department-head.
>>
>>377544461
Kill Them All: The conditioning failed. The Typhon just acted randomly/selfishly or it simply copied Morgan's behaviour. Either way, teaching them empathy is simply impossible.

The entire game was sorta trying to pull another 'player behaviour meta'-thing, like Undertale with Chara being the embodiment of videogame-cruelty.

Did the first encounter with the Nightmare bug out for anyone else? My first one spawned in the Lobby when I came down in the lift from the Arboretum.
It spotted me as soon as I came down and then 'camped' the exit. If I tried to leave the lift it would quickly kill me before I could even ready my weapons, so I ended up awkwardly waiting in the cabin for the timer to run out while the Nightmare constantly saw me, lost me, saw me, attacked the glass and then lost me again.

It also seems to spawn randomly from unrelated triggers. One spawned when I renewed the Neuromod licenses, but since I was in a small office part it spawned somewhere else entirely and I never saw it.

Yeah, the nightmare seems to be unfinished content. Most people either have one encounter where it spawns really disadvantageously and the player hides, or they realize they can take it on head-on no problem on any difficulty cause it's a wee bitch. Unfortunate. Yeah, it can't enter small areas, its just really bad.
