Good game and a very solid based for the next ones (literally since now that devs have and established engine and know what to do have half of the work already done for the next game so they can focus on improving the experience).
It's clearly not 10/10 and has various flaws you can't deny, but it's still a good game.

Personally it's my favourite 3D Zelda together with MM.

It's amazing. Not perfect but amazing. I really hope they pull a Majora's Mask with this engine and go crazy creatively with a sequel. I wouldn't even care if the map was smaller. Just introduce a wacky mechanic in the same spirit as time rewind. By itself, it's a 9.5 because I'm left wanting more after 200 hours.

Phenomenal

It cured my tired gamer syndrome for about 50 to 60 hours. Until I'd explored everything, I was absolutely in love with BOTW. It just had this feeling of real exploration, discovery, and adventure that few other games have been able to capture for me.

Yeah, the shrines can get a little dull after you do 100 of them, and yeah, they could stand to have designed more interesting sidequests in some cases, but this is the best open world game I've played in years. Even the weapon durability gave the early game combat this tense improvisational feeling that I loved. Not to mention climbing is an amazing mechanic that completely changed the way people think about traversing open worlds.

TW3 is a better open world game in virtually every way, the writing is better, the art design is obviously better, the story is actually engaging, the combat is deeper (still kinda shit though), but botw will sweep reviews more than TW3 ever did simply because it's a Zelda game.

TW3 isn't as good as BotW from an open world perspective. Quite often when I was playing TW3, I would set off in one direction only to become stuck and unable to progress because I wasn't properly prepared or missing something. I'd have no option but to skulk back the way I came. There's no such restrictions in BotW. There's always multiple ways for the player to fashion their own solutions to navigate the world.

The giant building shown in the artwork to the left is the tower of Hera. One of the temples housing one of the pendants of virtue. It's a major thing.
The equivalent in Breath of the Wild wouldn't be a mere shrine, but rather it'd be one of the Divine Beasts or Hyrule Castle.

And A Link to the Past's equivalent of shrines wouldn't be any of the temples/dungeons. But rather all the tiny little holes and caves you find and uncover all over the overworld. The ones who usually has one to a couple of rooms eventually leading up to some treasure. Hopefully a heartpiece, likely some rupees and some consumables.

The image is just shitposting at its core. And the edit in Breath of the Wild's defence just misses the point.

And when I ultimately, finally did it. I found a Zora helmet and was graced with the most beautiful venue that allowed me to glide gracefully down into Zora's domain. Which was how I first discovered the place in my initial playthrough.
But to then learn not too long after, that you get the ability to literally swim up waterfalls. Oh boy. After the struggle I had climbing that waterfall.
