You don't. They telegraph their attacks like nothing else and become predictable after the first 10 seconds, they also go down quick enough. They're probably the easiest bosses in the game honestly.

I actually beat Mantis Lords before upgrading the Nail at all.

Was probably one of, if not the most fun fight I've had in the whole game and I'm pretty certain I wouldn't have enjoyed it that much if I had the upgrades. Forced me to get good while not being unpleasant because there's a save bench nearby, not too much hassle to go back and retry until you beat them.
