My biggest issue with it is how it pretends to go back to the roots of RE but is actually a very safe modern game with all the bullshit that comes with modern games.

I have the same issue with FF XV, it pretends to be a game for the fans and to some extent it gives Snes era FF games vibes but at its core is a modern game with all the bullshit that comes with it including open world meme and DLC bullshit.

Really? I can't think of any horror game like RE7 in the last 5 years that is like RE7 besides maybe Zombiu.
Most horror games now are about running and hiding from the monsters but RE7 is that classic style of gameplay I love of item haunting and ammo conversion

There is alot of hiding from the invincible monsters actually and there is alot of shitty jumpscares with daddy teleporting behind u and monsters spawning behind u.

Also the game is really action heavy, especially during the later parts of the game yet the combat is shit. I know old RE games were action oriented but RE 7 is closer to RE 6 than to RE 3.

I want to clarify that I actually like the game but the whole 'it's just like old RE" is pure bullshit.

I also want to add that the puzzles are outright insulting and the game is linear as fuck. Even RE3, which is arguably very linear had more places to go at any given time than RE7.

The only thing that RE7 got right is the atmosphere and characters.

That only happens once in the beginning when you have no gun after you get a gun you can blast anything that gets your way.
As for jumpscares there really not that many as people make out what makes the game scary is the real sense of dread you get from the house and the looming threat of what's next.
Also the game does get action heavy for like the last part of the game but all REs do that even 1 and 2 do it with throwing enemies out you from every direction
Honest to god RE7 is more close to its roots then 4 fuck maybe even 3 in terms of how "RE" is it is

Depending of how you look at it sure, you can say there aren't that many jumpscares but the game is constantly doing the "boooh" bullshit to the point it gets more annoying than scary.

Oldschool RE games had a couple of different places you could go at any given moment not counting backtracking. RE7 has a just go here you retard kind of thing where everything is locked and you only have one possible place to go.

As for Large Marge she patrols one room so its easy as fuck to get by her.
Jack is really the only stalker in the game you need to worry about but even then I find it a lot more fun to fight him head on I never sneak past him.
Like I said jumpscares never bothered me.
And besides REmake which has a few optional rooms most of the old REs you have to explore everywhere RE 2 is very linear and that's the best one.

I don't think it looks incredible but I do think it looks pretty good.

The only part I didn't like was the beginning daylight area because the temporal AA/moving foliage had way too much ghosting and blur that it hurt my head. I didn't think I'd be able to finish the game until I got to the interior areas.

I thought the environments and lighting direction were really good in 7.

It was a really enjoyable game. It felt more akin to 1-3 than 4-6 did. It had a lot of flaws though.

If 8 doesn't continue on this path, while cranking it up and giving us more sci-fi urban horror like RE2 did for RE1, I will be disappointed.

But isn't it, though? And the guns have some of the worst sound design, and presence in gaming history. They would be louder and have more weight if the MC just went, "Bang! Bang!" and acted out the recoil.
