I do like the concept of learning a language, but the cost benefit ratio just seems way out of proportion for me. Compared to Spanish, which I've been half-assing on Duolingo and yet understand it fairly well.

It might actually be the game all Japanese games are built on. When they started adding shops in Arcade/console games in the 80's it was because of Wizardry. Dragon Quest which started the JRPG was all because of Wizardry. It literally the nexus to pretty much every video game nowadays.

Based on the Famitsu top 100 list only 3 western games made the list. Wizardry, GTA Vice City, and Sim City. Most likely the Sim City the Japanese played was the SNES which was developed by Nintendo so who know if that really counts.
