I've played it more than any other game I think. It's not polished at all, but it offers incredible freedom to do what you want, which not many games do. My only problem with it is that it becomes too easy once you're experienced, also I miss the progression aspect of the 2D version.

There's no trying. You can't just give it a go for a couple of hours. You have to invest at least a dozen hours to get some general idea of what it's like, but even then you won't really have any understanding beyond the super basics. And that's if you're following a beginner's tutorial.

Its terrible to watch. It is slow as fuck and if you have never played it you won't even understand much of what you are seeing.

It's a good management game similar to Dungeon keeper but it's poorly optimized, will never run well because the guy will never use more than 1 CPU core

however for an alpha, it's more feature complete than many beta/early access games and even finished games such as Minecraft

Dorf works with representations of graphics rather than graphics because the game has an autistic amount of detail to everything. Every single dwarfc can be damaged in any part of his body, his legs, feet, torso, spine, head, organs such as stomach and lung and be perforated and this will have different effects, same for spinal injuries. Now imagine having to animate all that shit, even with sprites, that would be tough as fuck.

The game is so detailed it would be impossible to make a 3D version of it, just a single dwarf would need a shitzillion of detail just to make all this info I posted made to the player in one way or the other. Then you have to consider this detailed damage system applies to over 50 creatures that are around all the time.
