From my own experience nowadays Telegram is a very popular chat client among furries and it really makes it easy to get together at a con. But before that I imagine it's all about finding the right communities online that would discuss and plan this kind of stuff beforehand, though you have to be pretty discreet about it still.

I'm primarily arguing these two points here. 90% is clearly a purposeful over exaggeration, but I doubt if even half the people who go to cons go their to have disgusting public nerd sex. I doubt even a fourth do. "It happens a lot" doesn't necessarily equal "1 out of 2 people are doing it."

I don't doubt it happens a statistically significant number of times, such that the police get called in regularly to handle it. But just because it happens "a lot" doesn't mean it's the primary or even a significant factor of the overall con itself.
