Honestly, all the characters aren't that much different. All of them have throws, jabs, launchers, etc. You could just play Mokujin all the time and win just by using single punches/kicks, without using any of the moves from command list.

Some characters have better tools to their disposal for certain tasks, like King has better throws, but Kazuya is better at punishing. Gigas has long arms but short legs, so it's better to use punches than kicks to keep distance, but for Hwoarang the opposite is true. But they aren't archetypes like in SF for example, so you can play as Kazuya as a grappler and just go by.
Just play with a character you like.

Played the current fighting games and non of them really click for me.

How do I find tekken friends?

All the people I played tekken 6 with in high school have drifted apart or moved away. And the slightest bit of input lag in regards to fighting games ruffles my autism so much that I don't even bother with online at all.

I'm that SF player who always messed around with Tekken but never got around to playing it seriously. Played nearly every version of Tekken.

Should I start as Lars or Akuma? I'm afraid that I won't be really good at "Tekken" if I play Akuma. But on the orher hand I am really familiar with the char, and he seems really similar to his SF4 iteration.

Lars doesn't function that well in the context of Tekken 7's core systems. He also teaches really bad habits.

Akuma is probably a bad choice for learning Tekken too because he's so different to everyone else.

I usually recommend Paul, Lili and Dragunov to new players. Drag also has the benefit of both being really fucking good in T7 and pretty cool to boot.

From what I have played from console T7 in the last couple of weeks, there has been no trace of slowdown, though I had heard from one or two people that setups were lagging a bit, so I am thinking the debug setups were a bit crappy.

From last week though noone complained about any lag and when I had a long session on it I had no issues. It will be available again next week and seeing as the game is now gold, we will know for sure.

The UK events at Birmingham and London. The next event is the finals at MCM London. So far I have not experienced any slowdown issues. Played on Mishima Building and the transition to the roof was instant. yeah, some people had issues at the Birmingham event too, which I was referencing to in my initial post. I have not heard of any feedback from the London event which took place last week.

Personally, I have not experienced any and I played quite a lot on a bunch of different stages, including the new ones. We will eventually see the result if final copies are used in the final UK event next week as it could just be a debug issue as all the setups were locked-up debug PS4s.
