You know this is the future of not only gaming but entertainment in general right?

So are there noticeable differences between gear vr and ps vr? Been thinking of getting one of those cheap vr headsets.

E3 won't be plagued by this crap any more will it?

I'll take VR for porn. No need to shill it at E3.

FROM is making a VR game, Valve is making 3, Capcom is still working on VR content, Bandai Namco is adding VR missions to the new Ace Combat and they have a VR arcade in Japan going, and that Agony game which though it might be a walking sim at least looks like a visually intense one.

So not much, but there's some stuff happening.

I'll be sure to enjoy the non-VR versions of all of those games because there will be NOTHING in them worth dropping almost a grand on a headset for
>>

You are so concerned about the price.
It's almost like you want to have VR, but just too poor.
>>
>>377482869
See now that's something I'd agree with. The cost and requirements are too high for most people, for what's on offer. Things that'll change with time.

It's the absolute morons spouting "Woo! VR is fail! We should stick to low tech forever!" that annoy me.
>>
>>377482557
>FROM is making a VR game

Can't you just let poor Steel Battalion rest in peace?

Does Ace Combat 7 still support VR? Shouldn't be much different than the Headtracking we had in Flight Sim's for the last 7 Years except for having the screen glued to your face, right?
>>
>>377482914
Okay? And I'll enjoy the VR versions, which will most likely be much better, just like how RE7 was better in VR.

I'm not sure what you think VR is, exactly. But it's kind of like headphones for your eyes. Surely you're familiar with the difference between using a TV's built-in speakers to headphones, right?

It has the POTENTIAL to be the future. in the same way 3D had the POTENTIAL to be the future. One day we will intigrate, but we may have either jumped the gun, or over saturated the market with hype and nothing too fast.

Terribly low resolution. You're better off looking at your monitor with a pair of binoculars from across the room.
>>
>>377487140
>Terribly low resolution
That depends on the hardware.
Both rift and vive have 1200 x 1080 per eye while PSVR has 1080 x 960 RGB per eye.
I think the resolution is limited by the processing power needed to output the same images twice.
>>

Here are some games that people say are worth buying VR for:
PSVR:
>Resident Evil 7
>RIGS
>Rez Infinite
>Eve: Valkyrie/Gunjack
>Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
>Sportsbar VR
PC:
>Onward
>Pavlov VR
>Battlezone
>Smashbox Arena
>Doom 3 (VR mod)
>Serious Sam VR
>Raw Data
>Arizona Sunshine
>Elite: Dangerous
>Rec Room quest mode
>Google Earth VR
>Minecraft (VR mod)
>Dreadhalls
>Robo Recall
>Superhot VR
>Tiltbrush
>Chronos
>The Climb
>NoLimits 2
>Fruit Ninja VR
>The Unspoken
>Half Life: VR
>>
>>377486638
>>>Can finally have an immersive sim game without having to build a massive replica cockpit
Except not at all, because you STILL need to build all the buttons.

It's vastly inferior, what's funny is that you can triple mount massive screens for cheaper than VR, with a far higher resolution. Headtracking is cheap and easy, and building a cockpit out of wood isn't expensive.

>triple mount massive screens for cheaper than VR
That doesn't sound right.
The cost of setting up PC VR is about $1500 (HTC Vive and the needed hardware).
Pretty sure using 3 monitors at a higher resolution (which would mean you need more power) would be more expensive.
>>
>>377485156
How the fuck does 3D have any potential to be the future? VR niggers actually have a point. Actually being inside of worlds and all that jazz. 3D doesn't. Unless you mean like 3D programmable matter like shit coming out of your TV and shit.
>>
>>377488237
Screens are dirt cheap, and running games at triple 1080p really isn't that taxing anymore, especially when you're talking about 20 year old sim titles.

VR is the ultimate meme. It isn't even the best option for the "ideal" games. It sucks shit for racing games too, because every single game doesn't track the wheel fast enough to allow you to track it without vision, so when you let go at full lock to let the centring spring take you back to centre, you'll overshoot if you look at the on-screen wheel.
>>
>>377488468
>3D programmable matter like shit coming out of your TV and shit
That's holograms.
>>
>>377488507
>meme
>>
>>377488518
No because you can't touch holograms. Programmable matter would be like a childrens cartoon character coming out of your TV and playing with your kids.

That sounds incredibly dangerous.
What if someone hacked the airways and made a guy come out of the TV to stab people?
>>
>>377487956
Good thing VR isn't one of those things and is the obvious natural evolution to entertainment.
>>
Is there any point to buying a Vive if you don't have the room for full room scale?

The rift is currently ~300-400US cheaper to ship to Australia, with the touch controllers which supposedly work with steam VR. What does the Vive offer for the extra dosh?
>>
>>377488587
>prostitution straight from your tv

why the fuck were we born so early into this technology
>>
>>377488648
>the obvious natural evolution to entertainment
Maybe when the headsets become less clunky.
>>
>>377488643
Yeah programmable matter is extremely dangerous in the wrong hands. Its far future tech anyways like beyond perfect mind VR and shit. If it ever gets perfect it'll prob be in the 2100s but then you'll have to worry about like matter that destroys other matter and replicates itself like black goo and shit.
>>
>>377481462
underrated.
>>
VR technology just isn't advanced enough yet.

I want small and lightweight VR goggles that are the same form factor as oversized sunglasses (like the ones that blind people wear). When we get to that point, where they become comfortable to wear 24/7, then I won't even need computer monitors anymore. I'll just wear the VR glasses at my computer.

The Vive is more all-in-one since it has motion controllers and room-scale posibility while the Rift only includes an Xbone controller and 1 camera.
I'm pretty sure that you can set up Vive at sitting-scale.
>>
>>377481996
Any advancement in technology starts with a niche crowd spouting how it's the future. Same thing happened with programmable home PCs.

“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.”

VR still won't sturplant monitors until they solve motion sickness anyway.
>>
I want a Vive but I'm just not willing to shell out that much right now. I've thought about getting one used.

>TFW BORN TOO EARLY TO EXPERIENCE THIS TECHNOLOGY
>>
>>377488729
There's no point to either, yet.

Wait for the next gen, or maybe even the third gen. It needs at least wireless capability and 4k screens to be a viable system, and both of those are completely feasible.
>>
>>377488853
It's actually cheaper to do room scale with a Rift since the headset + motion control package is way cheaper now.
Although the Vive lighthouses do room scale 10x better than those shitty rift sensors.
>>
>>377488928
>you can actually pull her from the screen with the burger and eat the burger
But then you wake up and realise that your TV has a chunk bitten out of it.
>>
>>377488943
Is wireless really needed that much though? From what I heard people get used to it rather quick then more or less forget about it. Sure it'd be great but it's not a huge detriment.
>>
>>377479290
>You know this is the future of not only gaming but entertainment in general right?
Keep telling yourself that. Humans are physiologically incompatible with VR.
>>
>>377488729
I would say yes as I've tried out both. Of course a Vive is fine for sitting/standing, but it really shines in room scale. Rift does sitting/standing perfectly and most steam VR games are compatible even if they say they aren't.
If you ever find yourself with room to do roomscale you can always buy a third sensor or try to get a two sensor room scale set up working.

People who say the wire doesn't bother them are lying. You're constantly aware of it.

The screens are already dogshit for latency, wireless processing really won't add enough to matter.

Yes, but 3D displays and movies have died yet again.

That won't stop the entertainment industry from trying the 3D gimmick again in 30 years since people lever learn.

poor college student here,
Got it last year in May, Still use it to this day.
Friends come over to try it all the time and love it.
My biggest gripe is the low resolution. Once they release a new headset with at least twice the resolution it should be good enough.
Even with supersampling at a much higher resolution there is still issue with reading small text like in racing games or flight simulators.
>>
>>377489529
oops meant to say downsampling not supersampling.
>>
>>377489529
Yeah, the low resolution is definitely the main issue with current HMDs.
