Realism. I feel like the promotional material and prologue were a bait-n-switch. The guns, costumes, code names, more realistic settings, and the switch back to Kaneko demon designs instead of demons made it seem like the combat would take place in a real world setting like Personas 1 & 2.

In P4 and P3 leveling up your stats took way less time and were way less annoying to do. I don't want to have to think about what's the best way to upgrade particular stats, I just want to do it and get it out of the way so I can do Social Links. A solid 20 percent of my time in my P5 run was spent dicking around upgrading pointless stats that don't make me any better in combat, don't give me extra dialogue options, and are required for finishing certain Social Links. Why would you give me a gun in a bag and then force me to do like a month and a half of solid Guts training to just TALK to fucking Iwai?

More events with your friends that weren't the fucking cat telling you to go to sleep/fucking eating. Hawaii was incredibly rushed and served no point for the actual story, and was merely included so that you could see your waifu in a swimsuit. The P5 cast felt more like acquaintances than real friends like in P3 or P4.

Also your character barely if ever fucking speaks. In P3 and 4 he was always contributing something to the conversation, but in this game your character can go like four different cutscenes without contributing ANYTHING to the conversation at hand. All this does is disconnect you from the character. No fun options that are locked behind your stats are a letdown as well.

Mementos is shit, and they should've just had a remixed Palace you could enter with remixed dungeons and stronger enemies, with a special boss enemy that gives you access to incredibly powerful gear.

I'm not very far in so far but I have two complaints:

I really want to do stuff around town but I keep getting railroaded by the story. Once you power through a dungeon and finish it you have lots of time to fuck around, but there are so many days I want to do one thing after the story section but Morgana says it's bedtime.

And it's a little too repetitive/handholdy in its narrative structure. Too many times you'll have this dialogue.

In terms of gameplay, p4 is better, no questions asked. But p3 is better in every other way.
The characters are all interesting, and develop throughout gradually throughout the story. They don't get one moment of plot relevance only to be thrown away to become unfunny comic relief characters or exposition fairies.
P3's atmosphere kills it. It knows when to be serious, and when to be serious, unlike p4 and fucking Teddie.
The story is a lot more interesting, and paced a lot better than p4's, where nothing plot relevant happens until the end.
P3 nails the social links, the soundtrack is amazing, Burn my Dread is way better than Perusing my True Self, it's all of that that makes p3 better.

But not being able to control your party members and tartarus are all pretty gay so idk nothing's perfect.

As someone who prefers Christmas cakes, there are way too many older women romance options. In fact, there are way too few confidants that were even around the protag's age, the only ones who fit that description are the Phantom Theives, Mishima and Hifumi

Realtalk, I wish we had all the party members way earlier. I really dislike how one or two team members get less than a month or so before the end game ramps up so they have to rush shit.

Also the fact that December and Jan/feb/march are dead months that don't matter at all. 3 months of absolutely nothing. It's by far the best part of the game when it comes to narrative, but if you're replaying the game you are probably only doing it so you can max all the Confidants and then never touch it again. Persona 5 basically takes 10 hours to get going in that regard.

I thought it was gameplay wise too, then again I've only played it once. It was the only dungeon in the game that required any sort of resource management because you don't have of the broke confidant bonuses like Death, Temperance and Strength and the boss was actually somewhat of a challenge.
Persona 5 has the problem of the game getting progressively easier as you go on with the final few fights being laughably easy. It's very poorly balanced.

P5 went like P3, P4, Nocturne and SMT4 went before it for me. Where all of the difficult fights were earlier on and by time I got to the final bosses I was just doing typical "buff/debuff, charge and attack" strategies until their health was depleted.

Futaba's a considerably bigger help fighting mobs because she can change the cognition of the fight and have you set up for demon negotiation or an AoA. Her help in boss fights can be pretty negligible unless you're lucky and she charges the entire cast. Most of the time when she tries to buff me I've already applied that buff myself and if she recovers SP that's cool, but at best it's allowing me to do one more move before having to use a recovery item for it. I really don't consider her help that much of a difference to say that it suffers even worse from the exact same problem every other SMT/SMT Spinoff that I've personally played where the game is inversely balanced.

Seriously, in P3, 4 5 and even the first game, the protag being this semi-faceless and semi-silent half-self insert doesn't add anything to the game. Imagine how vastly improved these games would be if they starred an actual main character.

My main complaint for the game is that it goes from bringing a corrupt politician to justice, to spirit bombing a demon lord into existence to shoot a giant bullet through God's face way too quick.

I'm cool with it being there, but I feel like there was way too little setup for it. It just feels strange and forced, like they were trying to wrap the game up quickly.

Also more post-game shenanigans with my waifu and bros. But maybe I've just been spoiled by P4G's Winter trip.
