I'd have liked a Destiny 2 thread to ask a few things about the predecessor but OP's shitty bait image makes this one an awful thread, going by the replies so far.

What I wanted to ask is:
How much content did Destiny 1 have on release and how much money did one have to spend on the game to get a decent amount of stuff to do?
Reason I ask is because these AAA Activision titles like Call of Duty are going for 60$+50$ season pass but are only enjoyable for ~60 hours to me, making them not the best investment.
I did play shoddy games with awful qulaity like Warframe for 400 hours though, despite its lack of content, but that was over many years with long breaks in between and coming back to check out new content.

My understanding is that Destiny had PvP of some sort but was that required for anything? I hate bad netcode and without dedicated servers I'd rather not pick up a game that doesn't allow to avoid competitive gameplay as it's part of character progression.

Also, how did (random) players in Destiny communicate, did it have text based chat and voice chat or only the latter?

Was there any economy aspect to gameplay, such as farming stuff and trading with other players, and if so, how (in)secure was the trading process?

Lastly, did it have any memorable characters or was it just a bunch of generic stereotypes?

Destiny's Vanilla had maybe 8 hours of campaign story, then everyone just dove into PvP, or parked in front of a cave farming generic monsters at respawn points by the millions because the equipment drop rates were so terrible. After about a month they patched that out.

The first two DLCs were totally forgettable, with about 2 hours of content, and cost $20 each.

PvP wasn't really required, but some equipment and bounties and stuff were locked to PvP. But the game started requiring more PvP as it went on to get some of the better stuff, and to get some of the games better weapons.

You could only communicate via voice chat.

No economy or trading.

Literally nothing memorable at all about Destiny's story. Vanilla largely had almost nothing happen. Most characters you saw in maybe two cutscenes. One enemy faction was literally introduced two or three missions before the end of the main game's campaign. Destiny vanilla had a fair amount of content. I had no problem playing the shit out of it, but notoriously, the first two DLCs easily could have and SHOULD have been in the base game. Here's hoping they don't make that mistake again, because eventually they did get their shit together with the DLC and they were worthwhile additions to the game. If you played Warframe that long I'm sure Destiny would be up your alley, but it too had the whole "take long breaks until major DLC drops" problem, at least in my experience.

PvP is not required for progression in any way, and if you're not a fan of it, 99% of your time can be devoted to PvE, like mine is. PvP was only ever required for very short segments of certain quests, or for more involved Exotic quests (these are supposed to be difficult so they tend to feature a lot of PvP).

Destiny had voice chat, and only when you were in a party with people, though Destiny 2 has been confirmed to have text chat as well on PC. Destiny 1 heavily relied on using third party communication, be that through Xbox/Sony messaging, LFG sites or forums.

No economy with other players. There's a sort of light economy when it comes to buying items from vendors, there are a few different kinds of currency and ways to convert said currencies into the one you need at the time. There are also more rare items that you can buy from rarer currencies. It's all pretty easy to get a grasp on, but theres no way to trade or anything.

The only characters of note are the ones in all the Destiny 2 trailers and shit, the three vanguard masters, and they're only noteworthy because they're the only characters Bungie bothered to develop even a little bit towards the end of Destiny 1's lifespan (and it was mostly just Cayde, the robot, who got developed). Destiny 2 looks to have more story, but it's nothing you're going to cream over, I can almost guarantee that.
