Okay now that we've had that conversation for the 77th time does anyone else feel like that wouldn't be what would happen?

DoR's writing was a huge step away in tone, and it felt like a decisive step, like it was the direction they wanted the series to stay in. Even stuff like Dr. Morris' jokes and everyone goofing around in the Tactical Tip Tent was US only.

DoR atmosphere really did come out of fucking nowhere.

The writing is better but man this shit is depressing and dark. Half of what made Advance war so much fun for people was the cutsey colorful nature of the game and story.

That I recall being an AW1-only thing, and they even used it intentionally as one of the tutorial maps teaches you how to take abuse of the fact.

There's a plenty of ways to improve the AI present in the games as-is, but not only could it slow the pace of the game down with AI very possibly taking longer turns and potentially call some versus mode balancing into question (except DoR with non-CO maps, anyway). Of course, hardware is the most limiting factor of all.

Making it better than a good human player may be hard, but making it better than the existing AW AI is not hard at all.

You can step through the logic yourself on some arbitrary turn and find that the game uses very simple heuristics that are plain wrong in many cases. If they did a proper graph search ( which in most situations the depth is certainly shallow enough to be feasible on GBA hardware) the unit would do something somewhat clever like sacrificing a weaker unit to take down the stronger unit (destroyed unit cannot heal so the weight there should be set higher than simple economic damage). But instead the AI will immediately resort to a heuristic like (this enemy costs more, I better not attack it because its futile)

You should also consider the overall "fun" factor of an AI. I'm not saying that AW isn't far too predictable, but an average player will probably enjoy playing against a simpler AI than one that makes more optimal moves.

Another consideration might be map design or how the designers intend the maps to be beaten optimally, and they do this design work around the predictable AI. That's just a random thought, of course.

In some perverse way I enjoy FEH in that all attacks are guaranteed, much like AW. If they used that to build a more fleshed out game than just a simple gatcha, I'd enjoy it a whole lot more. I believe the way I did it involved using Sami and capturing enough resources to produce a steady stream of mechs every turn, and marching them towards the front line in a suffocating pillar that slowly choked out the enemy and their resources.

Kinda sad how viable that tactic is on most maps. Though the first time I ever tried it, I fell in love. Used it to break a stalemate that had already gone on for very, very long, so it felt like if WWI was won by slowly inching the trenches all the way to Paris/Berlin, as was the original intention.

I've been thinking about this for a while.

How about an extra sci-fi Advance Wars sequel for a change? Hear me out.

They're the Scions of a powerful intergalactic Empire: the best of the best Soldiers in the Galaxy, genetically engineered, indoctrinated into crusading across the stars in search of humans to save and aliens to slay. Powerful, Power Armored troops all around. Their "Core" troops are as powerful as other factions' Elites.

Now they must survive in the dark corners of the Galaxy on the run from the remnants of the Cataclysm which wants them dead. A naive, upcoming powerhouse race from the far-reaches of the Galaxy, somehow avoided contact with the more powerful Empire long enough to become a powerhouse of enlightened engineering. They find the other faction's fighting tactics to be the product of a by-gone era, and fight using only long ranged weaponry and artillery, aided with powerful mecha and drone weaponry.

1's advance campaign is artificial difficulty. Several missions are what's known as "suicide missions". The game delivers a swift kick to your nutsack by throwing one at you on the very first mission. Remember that easy as fuck mission Kanbei's error? Kind of late, but here's the copypasta

1.- Download and extract www.mediafire.com/download/35cct9gh28jc9qa/
2.- Double click mednafen.bat
or just drag and drop "aw2.gba" into "mednafen.exe"
3.- Press Alt + Shift + 1 to setup your controls. (At every unique button prompt, press the key you want to assign it to TWICE so it moves on towards the next button).
4.- To connect to an active server, press T to type /server IP PORT or /connect IP PORT
5.- So we can tell you apart, press T to type /nick YOURNICKNAME
6.- Play the fucking game.

If you join a session with people on it, ask if there's any available open spots. If so, type:

/dupe 1

to share the control. I know this is 4chan, but don't be a dick and take control or move other people's units when it's not your turn.
