Video game Piracy.

How the FUCK do you sit there and justify your abhorrent behavior?

The transaction should be like this;
>developer puts in time and effort to create product
>consumer pays for product

Instead Pirates see it as
>developer puts in time and effort to create product
>"HURR NAH WOULDNT HAVE BEEN LOST SALE ANYWAY IM ENTITLED TO FREE SHIT"

You are fucking killing the industry we all love, all because you feel entitled to free shit.
>>
>>377415326
I don't have to justify it.

I do it because I want to and nothing you say to push your morality on me will change that
>>
>>377415326
I don't justify it. Haha I'm gonna do it anyway
>>
>justify
why would you do that

next you're gonna ask me to justify why I stole money from the nearest store and beat up the clerk

I'm a criminal, retard

>>377415408
>>377415435

Can't you see how shitty that behavior is?

Nope. Don't care. Stay mad.
>>
>>377415326

Only an idiot buys shit blindly.
>>
>>377415517

>>
Only pathetic losers justify it.
Fuck off, I'll get my stuff for free for as long as I can. In fact, if cars, food and housing could be pirated I'd do that too.
>>
>>377415553
>>377415598
How do you sleep at night.

Do you rob convenience stores and say "eh they got insurance it'll pay for it"
>>
>>377415326
>developer puts the minimal amount of time and effort into making some shit quality game
>publisher hypes the fuck out of it
>developer makes fake "gameplay" footage to use in the advertisements
>publisher hires fake reviewers, pays off journalists to create a false consumer Base for their product
>generate revenue before the game is eve out with shitty pre-order bonuses and other trash to get you to buy the game before you even know what's in it

Oh man but I'm so entitled I should have just magically seen through their lies and bought it because they deserve better man if only I paid much more for the game the company totally wouldn't have lied to me. It's those damn pirates that make the games worse and worse
>>
>>377415326

>>

>>
Imagine paying $60 for Ubisoft or Bethesda garbage? That's the real crime.
>>

You're so fucking oblovious
>>
>>377415679
no, I don't say the last bit

don't give a fuck how they deal with it, or don't -- they might as well kill themselves over it, don't care
>>
Don't worry anon, since you are shilling for free, they are not actually losing any money :^)
>>
>>377415679
I sleep well because I'm not a pretentious little faggot. Must be hard for you.
>>
>>377415679
Stay mad loser
>>
>>377415679
If there was no penalty for robbing convenience stores I'd do that too.
>>
If I couldn't pirate I wouldn't buy the game anyway

Is not buying a game also stealing it?

Is not viewing ads stealing too even though I don't have flash or Java or html5 extensions installed? Should I be forced to install malicious software to
>>
>>377415517
And crying about it while on a pedestal isn't "shitty behavior"?

There are always going to be pirates. You can't get rid of that. But the majority of consumers will pay money for a product that they feel is more than just pre-release hype. The push to secure a payment before release along with stiffing reviews till after release as well as microtransactions and paywalls only pushes more consumers to become priates due to a lack of trust and feeling as if they're being robbed of a promised product anyway.

The best way to fight piracy is not through DRM, it's through building consumer trust in your product.

But we don't pay for shitty 6-hour singleplayer bullshit or AAA-shit or bethesda shit.
We buy legitimately good games where it's actually worth supporting the developer. We don't like the current state of the industry, simple as that. So we support games that fall out of that spectrum and are worth supporting.

And we support them after playing them pirated, initially. Except if it's a MP-game obviously.

Videogame companies need to start paying shills to make pirated copies of their games, and make them easily available throughout the internet. The pirated games would come with a dormant virus. Well the transaction has changed now that once 1 copy is available it can be replicated indefinitely at no cost. The smart people have moved to patreon to sell their intangible "talents" and not their tangible(and replicatable) products. Or they sell a subscription service where they spoonfeed you media that you might not want to bother finding shiity ad riddled streams or shady russian websites to download from. Don't just work hard, work smart, your labor doesn't carry inherent value.

It will only be a problem if a large company gets affected by it. Then again, this company would have to evaluate itself on why the fuck they're using their computers to download pirated games. But random basement dwellers? Nah, they don't have any power to go after large businesses. Even if the data-erasing is only a slap on the wrist for them (as their PCs only have porn and pirated stuff), it will sure as hell make them wary of downloading anything in the future.
>>
>>377415326
Do you buy all the films you watch? What about TV shows only being available exclusively on platforms such as Netflix?

Not everyone can afford to pay for their entertainment, they cannot justify paying $50+ for a single game. Entertainment has become an expensive luxury, piracy allows those with less money to have access to such luxuries too.

Of course not everyone pirates for the same reason. Some do it even though they could easily afford to pay for it, maybe they want to demo the game before buying it, or maybe they are just entitled fucks who think they can get everything for free just because they can.

Then there are others who aren't exactly poor, but still can't justify paying so much for a single game. These people may pirate a game to play it immediately, then wait for the game to go on sale before making a purchase.

My point is that you can't just generalise all those who pirate games, people pirate for different reasons.

> You are fucking killing the industry we all love, all because you feel entitled to free shit.

Libertarian here, step aside and allow me to handle this.

Soundtrack for my post:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xc7lUbWEbqY

Well... It seems you believe in intellectual property... So to speak.

However... Allow me. I will refute this absurd concept.

How could a human possibly hold property of a idea, a concept, or computer data? It is abundant and essentially infinite. Even if you are the one who came up with it, nothing will be taken from you if others obtain it.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying this like a thief, but instead as a British lord, a morally conservative, libertarian fellow who believes that property rights are absolute and actually the only right that exists, all others consist on the mere use of property rights. However, there can be no property of abstract concepts... So to speak.

You may have property of your car. It is unique to you and certainly not abundant in nature. You can't, however, have property of all the water that exists in the world, or all oxygen, or all reproductions of your idea... So to speak.

Do you see it now? Piracy is not a aggression to private property. I will agree with you that it is immoral, so to speak, but certainly not a crime. Not at all.

because I prefer to play (not necessarily complete) every game before I spend money to buy it whether that is in the form of a demo or through piriting. Not even looking at trailers or youtube walkthroughs can be big enough proof that I really like the game other than actually playing it. By using this method, it eliminates buyers remorse for me. Never had to refund a steam game.

I'm not saying piracy is right, there's no point justifying it.. I know it's wrong and don't really care. There's no reason for me to rely on 'hope' about whether a game is good or not when I can just pirate it and buy if it's good.

Most recent purchase would be Nier Automata with this method.

- regional lock (I couldn't legally buy neither Maw nor Rayman Legends for some stupid reason);
- out of stock anywhere (Wolverine: Origins, Scratches are no more purchase-able), count out physical copies for ridiculous prices on ebay;
- physical copy went bad (i ain't buying same shit twice);
- physical copy that didn't go bad, flips the bird at you with obnoxious on-disc DRM that doesn't work anymore (you literally can't play Myst IV on newer machines with Windows 8 or higher)

Not my problem that they provide no demo for me to decide whether the game is worth it or not. Honestly, any game that has no demo isn't worth my interest. It just tells me that they have little faith in the game and ignores any potential feed back to improve it.

You don't have to trust any of them, you know?

And hating the fat fuck for that is seriously dumb when there's so many legitimate reasons. HL3 will never and can never be an actual thing.
>>
>>377415326
I do it to try out games as most games don't have demos and demos are usually an inadequate representation of the actual game. If I end up liking the game I'll stop playing the pirated version and buy it.

I don't see anything morally wrong with that myself, but maybe you can, since you obviously have a higher sense of what is right and wrong.

I've been pirating music and vidya since cassettes were a thing, I don't see any of the industries dying.

And frankly I don't care.
>>
I come from a relatively poor background where buying a game was a Christmas luxury. I could now afford to feed my current gaming needs without problems but I never got the habit of buying entertainment. It really feels like wasting my money.
I only pirate because I don't feel at ease wasting money on entertainment.
If you ask me what I'd do if piracy wasn't an option, I'd probably just keep playing old games (some of which I like to collect for novelty value) or drop this hobby for good.
I'm sure there's a lot of people like me.

I'm NOT fucking paying that much for a video game. And that doesn't even include the season pass and microtransaction bullshit. I refuse to pay that much.

It still confuses me how youtube allows full non-commentary playthroughs of kinetic visual novels or really linear cinematic games. That's no different from letting the vn run on auto mode or watching a video of the same scene.

>ou are fucking killing the industry we all love
piracy never had a significant impact on the industry, and according to their own people, resellers are much more damaging, which does not even stop them from cooperating with gamestop for more than a decade now.

Nobody in their right mind loves this industry, and the thing killing it is itself, because it needs exponential growth to keep itself alive.

They make the game
they don't make millions from the sales

The company boss does

I only buy games that deserves it. And meme games or cinematic trash with no real plot or character just don't.

Besides, most of the real good games are exclusive on consoles that aren't pirated. Really makes you think isn't it? AND YET THEY BOMB THE MOST

Basically, piracy doesn't do shit.
