I'm quite mad at the Nintendo defence force because it makes very hard to properly discuss Nintendo, and even in the best case scenarios most of their arguments can be reduced to "because yes".
As per the Switch in itself, at the moment there are 0 solid reason to buy one unless you really fucking die to play BotW and MK8 while taking a shit. It's slowly getting better, but I don't think we will be able to tell if it's actually worthy or not before end 2018.

I want the Switch to succeed because I don't want handheld games to just become mobile games. Sure they can tell you all they want it's a home console but the portability is the main sell.
I don't think Sony will make another handheld after the Vita and Microsoft is having a hard enough time maintaining the Xbox brand as is. Anyone that has fond memories of laying in bed playing their Gameboy would probably agree that seeing handheld games go full mobile would be sad.

I want the Switch to succeed because I want all handheld gaming to die, and despite what they've said I'm hoping that this thing does well enough that a dedicated successor to the 3DS never comes to exist because the Switch exists.

All handheld games are trash. However, I can't stop you from playing them. The best solution is to allow for one piece of hardware to exist and let us choose where we play the games for it.

One game is made, one game is marketed, one game is shelved, one game is sold, the player determines where it's played. No divided markets. Everyone wins.

Been a PC gamer my whole life, I bought my first console really late with the first Xbox. It was fun, as was the Xbox 360, though I really still stuck with PC. Friends had all kinds of consoles, starting from my childhood with SNES and really every major console since I've been able to play at least once. So I feel pretty secure in saying that the PS4 and the Xbone probably represented the weakest/most disappointing/least appealing generation in a long time, maybe since the crash in '83. The Wii U being around at that time didn't help either. Games have gotten incredibly expensive to make, taking no risks, wasting money left and right because of the huge budget, they are unfocussed and there are almost no middle-sized titles available, it's gotta be big, AAA, or it's the smallest Indie teams you can find. However that develops, the Switch has a great chance of refocussing the Games on the console and win fans over by gameplay, because Nintendo won't gain any ground by graphics, or size - but it's also a good chance to make more middle sized games and even indie titles, if Nintendo is willing to give good tools to work with things like the Joycons.

It will be interesting to see which revisions the Switch will have and if there will be a VR-Switch, where you can plug in the screen before your eyes and the motion sensors in the Switch itself and the Joycons. You can't tell me that they haven't designed the concept with this in mind, though afaik, the Switch would now be too weak to handle that.

I literally bought a Switch yesterday and I love it. Zelda is fun, Mario Kart is fun, Disgaea 5 is fun, Minecraft is fun, Binding of Isaac is fun. But there's the problem. It seriously doesn't have a lot of games worth playing. It seriously needs way more games and fast.
