The core gameplay is OK in both P4 and P3 but it's literally just SMT-lite with zero enemy variety or atmosphere and unbearable dungeons. I am playing through Nocturne which is considered to have the best dungeons in the franchise, but even then I get tired of dungeon crawling and have to take a break or stop for the day since in nocturne there is very little in between going between dungeons.
combine that with the fact with the encounter rate where there are even encounters in cities, I just get really tired of it after playing an hour or 2.
Don't get me wrong I am not saying persona is better than nocturne or anything, granted I only just beat Mizuchi in Nocturne, but persona is just a little bit more digestable when it comes to playing in long sessions.

It'd be cool if we got 4's 'traveling to other worlds' stuff fleshed out. Maybe the plot could be that the different gods of the Divine Powers are trying to initiate the 'apocalypses' of their respective religions across several universes, so Odin is trying to start Ragnarok, Krishna is trying to gain the power of Kalki, etc. in a mass rebellion against the Axiom, and you either help them or stop them. Then Lucy and whatever agent of YHVH also come along to complicate the matter.

You're mostly right though. Luck still plays a factor in SMT4:A beyond 200. I don't know the formula but the game seems to compare your luck to the enemy's luck to determine a crit. I maxed out all of my stats at 999 while I was still around Twisted Tokyo 4 and almost every Akasha Arts was a crit. But in Twisted Tokyo 9 where the fiends all have levels in the 900s it was much less common. I think Luck was like how you describe in SMT4 where over 200 basically means guaranteed crits. I've never tried that though because it's not really feasible to max your stats in SMT4 and there's no enemies with levels above 99.
