I'm looking to buy a PS2 again soon, does anyone have advice on which is generally the 'best' or most reliable version for both the fat and slim models? (I'm in UK btw).

I've just heard about FreeMcBoot so I'm considering getting a fatty for that HDD addon but the slim looks good purely for aesthetic reasons.

For fat models I heard SCPH-3000x or 3900x are good and for slims it is SCPH-7700x while avoiding 7500x because its incompatible with some games(?)

my and my brother each had our own slim and we both had problems with the disc reader/cd lid. Eventually we had to stack books/heavy things ontop otherwise the system thought the lid was still open
