I bought a 1050ti.
For my purposes it his the right spot of "I need to upgrade my 6 year old 5770" and "My old CPU isn't good enough to make use of anything bigger".
The 470 would've been an extra $50, and I had concerns about the extra heat it would generate.
This 1050ti's sitting silent 90% of the time, and the rest it happily handles the shitty games I play, usually at max spec (because they're a decade old).

But yeah if I was actually upgrading the whole kit properly, I'd be getting something better.

Do yourself a favor and don't bother. Unless you are overclocking to a level where you will have to bin CPUs (meaning: test 10+ CPUs to find more overclockable one for yourself, and resell the others) you DO NOT need liquid cooling. A noctua NH-15s cools better than a 240mm AIO.

AIOs are noisy and not inherently better than air cooling, they just have a specific-heat buffer in the form of the water itself. The actual heat dissipation is WORSE on an AIO than it is on an air cooler, because an AIO is simply air cooling but with the additional conduction barrier of carrying to heat to the fans by way of water.

Yes there are cheaper 470s out there but people/scalpers are grabbing them as fast as they can so you are shit out of luck getting one cheaper. Check prices in other countries and the difference is bigger.
